Qualcomm Released the Most Powerful Tablet for $1,299

Qualcomm, the maker of high quality processors and tablets, recently released Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 MDP/T, the world’s most powerful slate tailored for developers for $1,299. This tablet comes with Qualcomm’s latest S4 Snapdragon quad-core krait with each core clocked at 1.5 GHz. It also sports Adreno 320 graphics processing unit (GPU) with new FlexRender technology built to offer better display.

Processor. APQ8064 is actually an improved version of MSM8960T and the most noticeable difference is that it comes with four cores. Moreover, this SoC is intended for tablets and currently, it does not have a bandwidth but only supports Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi. The thing about Qualcomm’s powerful CPUs is that the cores are asynchronous. By the time the processes do not need the other cores, they will automatically shut off and this has a huge impact on battery life.

Graphics. Adreno 320 GPU is relatively new and comes paired with Qualcomm’s Pro and Prime CPUs. As mentioned earlier, it features the new technology dubbed as FlexRender which has the capability to switch between “Binning” and “Direct” rendering of modes which seeks to maximize the performance of apps as well as economize the use of power. It offers a resolution as high as 1366 x 768 pixels on its 10.1 inches screen.

Memory. To complement the powers of its CPU and GPU, Qualcomm gave this tablet 2GB of RAM. Had the manufacturer decided to give it just 1GB, it would still be enough to ensure it runs smoothly. But in light to proving it is world’s most powerful tablet, the manufacturer doubled the RAM making it one (if not first) of the few tablets to sport such amount of memory.

OS. Qualcomm APQ8064 comes with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich pre-installed. Devices as powerful as this are Jelly Bean-ready, thus, we might be seeing an update to 4.1 in few weeks.

Battery. A battery pack with 5200 mAh is enough to power this device for several hours. Considering both the CPU and GPU have power-saving features, owners of this tablet can assure it could last at least 6 hours before a recharge is required.

Guys from AnandTech did a few benchmarks on this tablet with results showing it is indeed the most powerful slate in the market today. For those who are interested in this, you can order from Bsquare.
