The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update for Sony Xperia S started rolling out yesterday, June 21st, 2012, but only a small percentage actually took some time to update their device. However, it is expected that majority of the owners will be doing the update this weekend. This will make the company’s servers a little busy and there could be some disruptions considering thousands, if not millions, of users will be downloading the package simultaneously. It might be better if you will not go with the rush.
Xperia S is the first Sony-only branded phone after the company bought Ericsson’s stake earlier this year allowing it to take out the name of the latter from its new smartphones. Eventually, the Japanese company became free in implementing features that reflect its reputation in the world of technology. For the most recent ICS update, Sony focused more on three aspects; Audio, Display, and Photo.
Walkman Application. For some reason, the term “Walkman” became synonymous to “portable music player” which started in the 90’s. Sony was actually the origin of this. Today, it is trying to implement audio quality that most people know about to its latest devices. This application does not only offer better sound quality, it has social features allowing users to discover, like and share music with their friends. It is also integrated with Facebook so sharing and commenting is open.
Movies Application. The 4.3-inch screen of Xperia S that features 720 x 1280 pixels resolution was built for multimedia purposes. Video streaming and HD video playback are even made easier and more entertaining. Its LED-backlit LCD screen features better and more vivid picture with the help of Sony Mobile Bravia Engine.
Album Application. Sony’s Cybershot technology has been a great success. While this smartphone does not bear the logo, the company has given it 12-megapixel camera to capture high-resolution photos which could then be organized using this app. Basically, the purpose of Album Application is for users to be able to sort the larger photos easier.
Sony promised a lot of things to users who have purchased this smartphone and one of them was the ICS update. Originally, Xperia S was released with Android 2.3 Gingerbread which, according to many tech experts, was a disappointment. This update is redemption for Sony and so far, owners are so pleased knowing they can now enjoy the features of Android ICS plus the Timescape user interface. There is a lot more to this update than just the three applications mentioned above. If you want to learn more about this update, you may want to check out the link below.
