Samsung releases source code for Sprint CDMA Galaxy S III

Samsung is one of the very few companies (or the only company) which frankly releases the source code of its new smart phones, no matter what kind of demand the smart phone may have. We have already seen the South Korean Android smart phone giant release source code for the one of the kind Samsung Galaxy Note. And just a few days after its launch, the company released the source code of the ‘Android King of the Year.’

Samsung had released the source code for T Mobile and the AT&T versions of the Samsung Galaxy S III. And today, the company has released the source code of the Sprint CDMA version of the Galaxy S III. This is like a huge gift for many individual ROM developers in the United States. I do not know why other Android smart phone manufacturers (mostly HTC) would not release the source code of their Android smart phones like Samsung does.

Releasing the source code of the official or the stock ROM of a smart phone would make the Android development of that particular smart phone very easy and fast. There would be more number of custom ROMs which would also be a lot better than the stock ROMs. Rooter and developers would love to have more functionality on their devices by installing new ROMs.

If you are a developer and want to use the source code and develop your own ROM, Samsung basically has only three major conditions, or rules for you, and they are as follows:

Redistribution and use in source and binary forms, with or without

modification, are permitted provided that the following conditions

are met:

1. Redistributions of source code must retain the above copyright

notice, this list of conditions and the following disclaimer.

2. Redistributions in binary form must reproduce the above copyright

documentation and/or other materials provided with the distribution.

3. Neither the name of the project nor the names of its contributors

may be used to endorse or promote products derived from this software
