AT & T is adding a quirky-looking phone called the Pantech Swift to its list of handset options. With a two-year contract, this device costs only $69.99. AT&T is throwing a mail-in rebate of $50, as well.
The Pantech Swift is a compact slider phone with dimensions of 4.29 x 2.22 x 0.58 cm. It comes with a 2.8-inch QVGA Color TFT capacitive touchscreen that has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. This screen is slightly angled, even when the keyboard is slide out, allowing for a comfortable view of the screen contents. Its sides are accented with a metallic lavender hue, which reveals that the phone is targeted at younger consumers, or those who prefer things that are cute.
It also sports a keyboard which allows for easy typing input, making up for its small screen. Beneath the face, there is a hardware select button that users who prefer buttons instead of touchscreens may appreciate. Moreover, under the hood is a Qualcomm QSX6270 processor, which is quite slow according to today’s standards. A 293 MB internal storage, which is expandable up to 32 GB is available to users as well. A proprietary OS called BrewMP 1.0.4 runs on the device.
This device is as well equipped with a 2 megapixel camera that allows not only for picture-taking but also video capture. For easy Internet access, Pantech throws in a free web browser, email client, and apps for social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace. AT&T is moreover including its regular navigation and family tracking apps. Demo games are onboard, too, as well as Yellow Pages Mobile.
It also offers Data Tethering and HSDPA 3.6. Its other features include GPS, multiple language support for English, Spanish, and French, polyphone ringtones, custom graphics, custom ringtones, and real-music ringers, threaded message view, MMS, and Facebook instant messaging. The Pantone Swift’s battery is a 1000 mAh Li-Ion rechargeable that provides only 3 hours of maximum talktime, and 10 days of standby time. Perhaps, this phone might be adequate for younger users who do not have such high standards when it comes to processing speed or screen size.
