The Archos 97 Carbon is a new addition to the Archos Elements line which names the devices after chemical elements. It joins another Elements tablet that was spotted at the FCC earlier this month, called the Archos 70 Cobalt.
Photos and specifications of the Archos 97 Carbon model, which looks very similar to the Arnova 9 G3, have just recently surfaced. Unlike the Arnova 9 G3 tablet, however, the tablet from the French company sports more apps for Google services as well as a rear-facing camera. Furthermore, it boasts of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as its operating system, which Archos had been able to register with Google. Thus, users enjoy full access to the Google Play Store, where they can download apps to extend the functionalities of the tablet.
Inside, the Archos 97 Carbon is powered by a single core ARM Cortex A8 Rockchip 2918 processor with a clock speed of 1 GHz coupled with a graphics processing unit called 800GC Vivante Corporation. These will work alongside a full gigabyte of RAM as well as 16 GB of built-in storage. Expansion, however, is still possible up to 32 GB by means of a microSDHC card slot that is onboard.
For its display, the device sports a 9.7-inch IPS LCD screen with 5 point multi-touch gesture support and a resolution of 1024 x 768p. Connectivity is provided by Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and possibly a GPS receiver, and Bluetooth. Meanwhile, a VGA camera may be found on its front, and a main camera with a 2 megapixel sensor on its rear. The rear camera is one of the notable features of this device, because not many other Archos tablets have it. A headphones jack, USB port, volume and home buttons, and HDMI output complete the package.
The Archos 97 Carbon tablet has dimensions of 239 mm x 184 mm x 11.5 mm. and weighs around 620 g. It is expected to have a price tag of 199 euro and bound for release sometime during the second half of 2012.
