If you are a Sony Ericsson (now Sony Mobile) Xperia Play owner, here is a sad news for you. Your smart phone will not be receiving the update to the latest version of Android, the Android 4.0.4, also known as the Ice Cream Sandwich. Yes, this is indeed a very big let down for all the people who have been waiting for the update. You guys will be missing out on many Ice Cream Sandwich features. But the smart phone is not fit for the update, says the gaming console giant.
The company, then Sony Ericsson, released the Play Station phone in a hope to win the hearts of millions of gamers around the world. After making these mobile gamers wait for a long time, the company did release a smart phone which was close to the dreamed Play Station phone, but turned out to be very crappy. The reviews received the smart phone were not at all pleasing, and the game titles made available for the smart phone were very old, not made to compete with today’s mobile gaming titles. So the sales did see a poor figure.
But nonetheless, there are still people who use the smart phone on a daily basis and are very eager to get Ice Cream Sandwich on their phones. But according to Sony, the gaming features of the smart phone are to blame for the incompatibility of the Ice Cream Sandwich update.
So what is the solution? Well, I am not supposed to be telling this, but one solution is to root your favorite smart phone and install a custom ROM on it. There are several possibilities which might occur from this. You might brick your device, or you might be able to successfully install the custom ROM and make it work, but most of the games may not run on the custom firmware. Or everything might just turn out to work perfectly. But if you are tying this out, do check the development forum for the Sony Xperia Play device only on the XDA Developers site.
