Last year when Samsung Telecommunications chief JK Shin officially confirmed that there would be a Samsung Galaxy S III that would blow away event the Samsung Galaxy S II it was automatically believed to be released at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Spain.
Two weeks ago rumors got hot and heavy that Samsung had decided to postpone the release to another date.
Techradar has obtained the following official statement from Samsung in regards to the Galaxy S III and Mobile World Congress (MWC)
Samsung is looking forward to introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products at Mobile World Congress 2012. The successor to the Galaxy S2 smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product… Samsung stays committed to providing the best possible mobile experiences for customers around the world.
More after the break
Don’t worry though, Samsung isn’t going to show up to MWC with nothing. Rumors began circulating this past weekend that Samsung would issue a refresh of the Samsung Galaxy Tab or possibly a new tablet all together.
According to this report, originated from Androidandme.com, Samsung will be releasing a new Android tablet running a 2ghz Exonys processor alongside Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. As we said in our story, Androidandme has an extremely well placed source at Samsung. In addition we’ve now seen two tablets pass through the Wi-Fi alliance further substantiating this rumor.
With Samsung committed to an H1 release of the Samsung Galaxy S III that could mean we could wait all the way until June 2012. That coincides with our theory that they will make that announcement at CTIA in New Orleans in May 2012.
Samsung and Verizon Wireless were all set to announce the Galaxy Nexus at CTIA but out of respect for the recent passing of Steve Jobs the event was moved to the AllThingsD conference in China. Perhaps, Samsung and CTIA have decided that since their last CTIA event was pushed away from their October conference, they would try again in May.
The proposed specs of the new Samsung Tablet look like it could be a great device if it comes to market. On the handset side though, it looks like HTC could walk away from MWC with the Android handset to own in 2012.
