This new tablet would be Google branded, and could quite possibly be made by the very soon to be acquired Motorola Mobility division. The 7″ tablet would have a resolution of 1280×700. Shim want on to reveal that production of the device could start as soon as April and the first run is expected between 1.5 and 2 million units.
More after the break
While all eyes are looking at an Android or Chrome based tablet, the device could be the center piece for Google’s upcoming home entertainment system. We are expecting to see the system in June at the Google I/O developer event. However, with production ramping up in April, could we see the home entertainment system and this device at MWC next week? It’s possible, but aside from their party, Google hasn’t called any kind of special press event… yet.
There was a report back in January that Google was looking to produce an Ice Cream Sandwich tablet of their own. That tablet was suggested to be a competitor to the Kindle Fire. Perhaps this device could function as both the center piece for the home entertainment system and as a tablet.
In regards to this new tablet rumor Shim has said “I don’t know how they plan on marketing it. If it’s going to be a premium device, or if it’s going to be a Kindle Fire type competitor,”
As Cnet has pointed out, when the merger is complete, Google will take ownership of the three Motorola Android tablets on the market today; the Xoom, the Xyboard and the Xyboard 8.2, which also has major home entertainment control functionality baked in.
Motorola hasn’t said a word in regards to their device portfolio. The only leaks we’ve heard are that they could possibly launch the first Intel powered Android phone next week in Barcelona.
The world is watching.
