MWC: Samsung Makes The Galaxy Note 10.1 Official

Samsung took the wraps off the worst kept secret at Mobile World Congress today, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.  Although not announced until around 8am in Barcelona, Samsung had a billboard prominently displayed on the side of the Placa de Catalunya hotel since early Sunday morning.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.  It’s powered by a 1.4ghz dual core processor and has HSPA+ connectivity which means that we’ll see it on either T-Mobile or AT&T or both. There is 1gb of RAM.

The biggest part is the refined S-Pen experience. The S-Pen is not just a stylus, but a digital pen. Applications throughout the Galaxy Note 10.1 have been optimized for input from the S-Pen and it also has the same screen shot capabilities as it’s little brother, the original Samsung Galaxy Note.

More after the break

The main S-Pen app is S-Note. This app allows you to combine notes and sketches together along with web images and other digital media into your own story boards. It also comes with a handful of useful templates within the app for things like recipe cards, diary, magazine and more.

If you’re handwriting is not that great or you weren’t born with a gift a drawing don’t worry as Samsung also has a new “Shape Match” function which matches hand drawn geometric shapes and digitizes them perfectly.

“GALAXY Note 10.1 takes productivity on a Note to a whole new level. With a larger, fully utilizable screen and superior performance, it combines the intuitiveness of handwriting with all the versatility of digital content to let users be more productive across all of life’s demanding tasks—whether working, learning, or simply creating their own stories,” said JK Shin, President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. “With GALAXY Note 10.1 we are demonstrating Samsung’s commitment to extend the mobile category and are working with key partners like Adobe to provide extraordinary experiences for users that enable them to be more productive, express themselves creatively and add a touch of fulfillment to their lives.”

As for the other specs of the Galaxy Note 10.1, we’re looking at a 10.1″ WXGA display at 1280×800, 3mp camera on the rear, 2mp camera on the front. The battery is 7000mah and it will come in 16, 32 and 64gb models. There’s also a microSD slot for added storage.
