FourSquare Gets Android Update

Back on January 20th Foursquare pushed out an update to it’s Android app that added venue menus to the popular location based app. Foursquare is back again adding new features to their Android app just a month before South By Southwest in Austin Texas.

Four Square launched three years ago at South By Southwest and they’ve used the gigantic city wide festival to update their users and announce major enhancements.

More after the break
With South By Southwest exactly a month away we’re not sure if FourSquare has more treats in store for us or if this is the version of their Android app they’re heading down to Texas with. Whichever it is, thedroidguy team will be there bringing you all the action from South By Southwests Interactive Festival.

In the meantime, Foursquare is pleased to release a new “explore” feature which will help users discover restaurants, coffee shops and nightlife recommended by other Foursquare users.

The other big feature enhancement is support of the “beam” function that is found in Ice Cream Sandwich. With Beam a user will be able to select a place to go and then beam it using NFC to their friends with Ice Cream Sandwich devices, like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Foursquare has been evolving over the past year or so out of just the normal check in and become mayor app it once was and adding elements of discovery that can be found in popular foodie apps like Urban Spoon.
