Yahoo Shuttering A Number Of Mobile Apps

Yahoo is obviously going through an internal restructuring. Earlier this year they said goodbye to their CEO, Carol Bartz, by phone nonetheless and replaced her with Scott Thompson. Just over a week ago Yahoo Founder Jerry Yang left both the Board of Directors and some internal positions he held at Yahoo rather abruptly.

It’s Thompson’s job to get Yahoo’s hodge podge of internet properties focused and making more money again. Long gone are the days when Yahoo’s signature commercials aired on television and billboard stood in Las Vegas.

To that end, Yahoo has announced Friday that they are turning off a bunch of their apps in their mobile app portfolio. Here is the list of smartphone apps that Yahoo is getting rid of.

  • Yahoo! Meme (iPad and iPhone)
  • Yahoo! Mim (iPad)
  • Yahoo! Answers (Android)
  • Yahoo! AppSpot (Android and iPhone)
  • Yahoo! Deals (iPhone)
  • Yahoo! Finance (BlackBerry)
  • Yahoo! Movies (Android)
  • Yahoo! News (Android)
  • Yahoo! Shopping (iPhone)
  • Yahoo! Sketch-a-Search (iPad and iPhone)

  1. The only app they have that I care about is the android Yahoo mail app because it has push service like the built in gmail app, but it pisses me off because you can’t change the ringtone at all.¬† It uses some crappy one they decided to install.
