2 students from Brigham Young University have come up with an app to help you win those candy jar guessing games. You know the game, you go to a fair, a craft show or other event and someone is giving away a cool prize if you can guess how many pieces of candy are in the jar.
Well using basic physical properties of both jars and a variety of candies including m&m’s, hershey kisses, jelly beans, and more, the Candy Jar Estimator app can calculate an estimate of how many candies can possibly be in the jar. In most cases with these types of contests you only need to be closest to the actual number of candies.

Here’s how it works:
Choose your candy
Select your jar
customize your jar measurements
let the app calculate the number of candies that are in the jar
There are currently 11 types of candy in the app, with more on the way. There are 8 types of jars with customizable dimensions. As far as measurements go you can measure the jar in inches, centimeters and credit card lengths, in case there’s no ruler close by.
There are two versions of the app. The paid version is $.99. The lite version is free and only includes 6 candy types and some advertising. If the app helps you win prizes every time though a measly $.99 is definitely worth the investment.
