While most Android users are sitting somewhere pondering if and when their device will get Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, owners of the Sprint Epic 4G, are just now getting Android 2.3 “Gingerbread”.
The original Sprint Epic 4G was the top of the line Samsung Galaxy S phone to come to the United States. In addition to the features of the Galaxy S that made it so popular on T-Mobile as the Vibrant, AT&T as the Captivate and Verizon Wireless as the Fascinate, it also featured a slide out qwerty keyboard along with Sprint’s 4G “WiMax”.
After a longer than usual wait, Sprint Epic 4G users are finally starting to see the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
In addition to upgrading the Samsung Epic 4G from Froyo to Gingerbread, the update also features:
- Audible Sprint AIRAVE™ notifications when answering call
- SMS messages sent without area code
- PRL and Profile update
- EAS (Exchange Activesync) email displaying HTML
- Bluetooth headset sound improvements
- Fully visible date on device lock screen
It seems that forum using Sprint Samsung Epic 4G users have started reporting that they are getting the update.
