Sony Ericsson said earlier this month that they were going to update all of their current Xperia line phones to the latest version of Android. Currently the “latest’ version is Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread, and as promised Sony Ericsson has begun to deliver the firmware updates. Pocketnow is reporting that we were expecting the updates in October however they’re showing up a little over a week early.
The Sony Xperia Neo, Sony Xperia Arc and the Sony Xperia Play have all started to receive the new firmware update. The Xperia Play is the only one of the new Xperia devices available in the U.S.
More after the break
In addition to Android 2.3.4 the Sony Xperia Neo and Sony Xperia Arc also received Swype virtual keyboard. All three phones have received an update that will allow the user to take 3D pictures with their 2D cameras by way of Sony Ericsson’s 3D Panorama Software. The software allows you to convert your photos to 3D for display on a 3D capable television.
Sony’s Android 2.3.4 update also includes Google Talk with video so you can video chat your friends when you’re on the go. They’ve also added the ability to take screenshots without rooting and a new social media UI called “Facebook Inside Xperia”.
There’s no word on which version of the Sony Xperia Play is ready for the update, Verizon or AT&T, or if it’s ready for both. Do you have a Sony Xperia Play? Have you seen the update?
