BGR has obtained photos of the Motorola Atrix follow up dubbed the Motorola Atrix 2 and baring the code name “Edison”. The Motorola Atrix 2 is said to have a dual core 1.5ghz processor, most likely of the TI variety. It’s also sports an 8 mega-pixel camera with the ability to record 1080p HD video.
Like it’s predecessor the Motorola Atrix 2 will have a micro USB and HDMI out side by side so that it can work with the Motorola Webtop accessories, presumably including the Lapdock. We’re not sure if Motorola has readjusted the ports again, requiring a new set of accessories, or if they will be backwards compatible to the original Atrix’s webtop accessories.
More after the break
While BGR is reporting that their source says the Atrix 2 won’t be a 4G/LTE device on AT&T, we had originally heard it would be the flagship 4G/LTE smartphone. We’re not sure who to believe but we do know that problems Motorola was having with their LTE packet stack have been resolved and we’re sure they are gunning to get as much 4G/LTE equipment out as possible.
Also during Motorola’s Q2 earnings call, Motorola Mobility CEO, Sanjay Jha, indicated that there would be at least 3 more 4G/LTE smartphones before the end of the year, including the Bionic. That means there are at least two still waiting in the wings and we wouldn’t be surprised if this device is actually one of them.
AT&T launched their 4G/LTE network in 5 cities this past weekend. Those cities are Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.
