Sprint’s Total Equipment Protection handset insurance program protects against loss, theft, damage (including water damage) and out of warranty mechanical failure. In most instances when covered by TEP you can get a replacement device the next day if your claim is filed by 11pm ET.

Recent enhancements to TEP include a way to sound an alert on a phone when misplaced, locate the phone when lost using GPS and remote wipe. This protection app is available free to Sprint customers enrolled in TEP.
So as for this open enrollment; according to Sprint anyone who is currently in a contract with Sprint and not covered by TEP can enroll from now until August 31, 2011 no matter how old the phone is. Sprint doesn’t even need to see the phone, just go to https://tepenroll.com to sign up.
TEP provides piece of mind to customers who have invested in a phone worth hundreds of dollars. In most cases customers have paid a generously discounted price for the phone with a new two year agreement however a replacement would be at full retail which can run upwards of $500-$600 for a current Android superphone.
