GetJar Adds Gold Apps, Patrick Mork Exits For Post At Google

GetJar, one of the largest independent app stores in the world has just added a new “Gold” apps section to their app store.  The new Gold section offers paid for apps for free to users of Getjar.

GetJar Gold is offering premium titles for free, not just apps that should have been free. Paper Glider, Swift Key X, Farm Frenzy, Hockey Nations and many more popular paid games and apps are now found in the Gold section.  The Amazon app store offers a daily premium app for free as their app of the day. In some cases they continue to be free for a few days or offered at a discount.

This new GetJar Gold section comes fresh on the heels of the news that GetJars marketing honcho Patrick Mork, is leaving the company for a position at Google as the new marketing director of mobile apps.

Mork is no stranger to apps. He is a self proclaimed “app guy” with a deep background in mobile apps. Mork has worked all around the world for GetJar and before that he was with top app publisher Glu Mobile. In an email to his friends and colleagues Mork said:

“GetJar has certainly come a long way from the small, seven-man company I was supporting from my kitchen desk in London in 2008!”

Mork will transition to Google on August 19th. It’s not clear if he will just support Google branded apps or somehow help marketing efforts with Android developers as well and the Android market as a whole.  Google just recently announced a series of workshops targeted to developing for Android tablets.

Mork will use the key relationships that he has formed over the years with GetJar and in the mobile app ecosystem in his new role at Google. Mork is known for his down to earth relationships with developers big and small, and for throwing some awesome parties in San Francisco.
