Verizon Slashes The Price Of The Xperia Play Already

The Sony Xperia Play, the first PlayStation certified Android device, was one of the most anticipated phones of early 2011. However delays stemming from the earthquake in Japan, caused supply chain problems that delayed the Xperia Play’s release.  The Xperia Play was finally released on May 26th at Verizon Wireless alongside the LG Revolution and the Motorola Droid X2.

Although Verizon Wireless rarely releases sales numbers to the press, launching the Xperia play side by side with two other superphones could not have been a good thing for Sony Ericsson.Whatever their reasoning Verizon has already officially lowered the price of the Sony Xperia Play to just $99.

The $99 price is great for consumers though who want a solid Android 2.3 device with great graphics and a PlayStation like controller.  AT&T also reported earlier this summer that they would also carry the Xperia Play before the end of the year.
