The Mobile Mix report is produced monthly by Millennial Media the mobile ad platform. Millennial is the largest independent Mobile ad network now that AdMob has been acquired by Google. The data in their Mobile Mix report is reflective of actual devices and OS’s that have touched their ad network. So it’s a much better case than shipping vs. sales.
Last month 6 of the top 10 mobile phones were Android. The Motorola Droid 2 came in at number 10. The Samsung Vibrant, Galaxy S came in at number 8. The Huawei Ascend (a prepaid phone) came in at number 7. The Motorola Droid X on Verizon came in at number 6 while the HTC Evo 4G and the original Motorola Droid came in at number 4 and 3 respectively. Of course in terms of device the iPhone came in first place.
The Most significant finding in the mobile phone piece was that HTC moved to the number four position on Millennial’s top list of manufacturers with an 11% share. HTC had 6 devices in the top 20 with all of them running Android.
Moreso than another page in the Android vs Apple war, the latest findings show that launching Windows Phone 7 has been a huge struggle. Both Samsung and HTC have Windows Phon 7 devices on multiple carriers and neither can crack the top 20.
