Angry Birds Shows Off NFC Capability

Last week at the recent MeeGo conference the fine folks at Rovio Mobile showed how they are spreading their Angry Birds wings to the world of NFC technology. Although it was demonstrated on a pair of Nokia handsets, a Rovio Mobile spokesperson confirmed it’s coming to multiple formats including Android.

What are they doing with NFC? Well right now the first idea they showed off was the ability to shake hands with another player via NFC to unlock new levels.  By simply tapping two Nokia C7 phones together two people playing the newest version of Angry Birds can instantly unlock five new levels.  RovioMobile made it clear that that’s not where this is going to end.

Combined with Google’s big push for NFC and Rovio just showing the tip of the iceberg when it comes to integrated NFC technology, we’re sure this is just one of many ways game developers will incorporate the new technology.
