As we reported earlier in the day Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE service is experiencing a nationwide outage. The Samsung Droid Charge, a 4G/LTE device was announced to be released tomorrow (4/28/11) in Verizon Wireless stores. We reached out to Verizon Wireless spokesperson Brenda Raney who wanted to make sure we had it clear that she does not speculate ever and gives the information available to her which is the following:
We are aware of an issue with 4G LTE data connections and our network engineers are working to resolve this quickly. We have determined the cause of our issue and are working with our major vendors to restore connections.
· 4G LTE Smartphones will still be able to make calls.
· Customers are temporarily unable to activate any 4G LTE devices.
· Please note: Customers may experience a 1XRTT data connection during this time.
· We expect to see the network restored on a market-by-market basis. Timing and additional details will be provided as they become available.
We followed up by phone with Brenda Raney and again she could not speculate on what would happen tomorrow. However as you can plainly read there are no activations of 4G/LTE Devices during this outage. Verizon Wireless will not sell a device unactivated and on contract. You may be able to purchase the Droid Charge at full retail to activate later.
However if the Verizon Wireless 4G/LTE Outage is resolved by morning, the Droid Charge will be on sale as planned.
