Wow, just like at MWC, well actually just like any major convention that Samsung takes part in they’ve dominated the outside of the Orange County Convention Center, home to CTIA Mobile Life 2011. As you pull in you see the 7,8,9,10 lawn ornaments above. 7,8,9,10 was the promo tease they used in their invites for tomorrow’s special edition of Samsung Unpacked.
Samsung will hold a press event tomorrow where we are expecting the big news to be an 8.9 version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab running Android 3.0, Honeycomb. When Samsung first unveiled the original 7″ Samsung Galaxy Tab at IFA last fall both JK Shin and WP Wong hinted at a portfolio of tablets. The Samsung Galaxy 8.9 will make the 3rd tablet in the Samsung Galaxy Tab line.
The Samsung Galaxy 10.1 was announced at Samsung Unpacked in Barecelona last month. The 10.1 features honeycomb in an uber thin and lightweight frame being hedged out by a nudge in size and weight by the newest carnation of the iPad, the iPad2.
There was speculation that Samsung would head back to the shop and to the accounting department on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to possibly make it a little thinner and a little less weight, and of course a little less heavy on the purse strings of consumers. However the 10.1 cleared the FCC just a day later in it’s final version.
Samsung hasn’t released pricing or availability on the 10.1″ version of the Galaxy Tab yet. Many people feel that Motorola lost a lot of potential sales being priced more expensive than it’s Apple rival. Samsung has to be careful not to do the same thing especially because it’s their own processor at the core of Apple’s iPad2 A5 processor.
