Hands On With The Sidekick 4G From T-Mobile

No matter what happens, T-Mobile is trying as hard as they can to keep customers and keep going. The company is releasing a slew of devices, not stopping for anything, and they’re presence at CTIA has some interesting devices. The Samsung, yes, Samsung Sidekick 4G.

This device is the follow-up to the wildly popular Sidekick. Remember that phone that Dwyane Wade did commercials on every week? The Sidekick 4G keeps the cool 360 flip keyboard design that was on the first, and improves the experience dramatically by using Android as the operating system. This phone operates on Android 2.2 and runs on T-Mobile’s 4G HSPA+ network.

The Sidekick 4G has a 3.5 inch screen, and a 3 mp back camera.  This device does have a VGA front facing camera as well. With a 1ghz  processor on board this phone is pretty snappy, and the custom skin Sammy put on the Sidekick is quite different from any other Android device. The skin focuses mostly on the social aspect of having a smartphone, but also has a lot of traces of media everywhere.

The Sidekick 4G is a pretty cool device, and is the only phone that really pulls of that sweet slide-out keyboard. Check the video below for a hands on with the device.

  1. Reviving a gadget from the past is difficult to do, but T-Mobile and Samsung succeed impressively in pulling Sidekick back into the fray.  The almighty keyboard which we came to love still doesn’t fail to deliver, and it is made more interesting because it’s Android-powered.  It really gives Sidekick its deserving reboot.
