Samsug Leaving Mobile 3D On The Table For Now

Samsung’s Jim Powell, head of product management for Samsung Mobile UK told today that while Samsung is watching LG and other’s 3D displays on mobile phones Samsung doesn’t have a  rival product waiting in the wings.

Both Samsung and LG are global leaders in consumer electronics. Both companies are based in Korea and both companies have in house divisions making displays, LCD screens and working on 3D technology.  Samsung was one of the first companies to bring 3D to the television as Powell put it “We are world leaders in 3D, but we haven’t seen a need for 3D on mobiles as yet…”

For now we’ll take their word for it. I come from the school that 3D is cool but it actually gives me a headache.  We’re not sure if 3D is necessary on a sub 5″ screen however we see the benefit in the tablet for sure.

Powell seems to agree “We just don’t see [3D] is needed yet – good luck to the innovators though, it will be interesting to see if it works, and if it does you’ll see a response from Samsung quickly.”

  1. So much for being pioneers in your field. Sounds like Samsung Mobile is content being derivative me-too hacks.
