SnapTax was tested last year in California and allows taxpayers to use their phones camera to take a picture of their W-2, then it populates the data, has the taxpayer answer some questions and then hit file, voila, you can do your taxes in the car (which we don’t reccommend while driving).
Snap Tax uses OCR technology to capture the data from the W-2 and keeps a running tally of the refund or taxes owed throughout the entire process. The app itself is free. The taxpayer will pay a fee when ready to electronically file. The $14.99 fee includes one 1040ez and one state return.
The tax payer also elects how to receive their refund adds that information and voila.
