App of the Week: Seek Droid

Seek DroidEveryone with a smartphone, Android or iOS, pours personal information into it. Credit card numbers, email addresses, personal information, and all kinds of goodies. In doing this each and every one of us risk things like ID theft and all kinds of fraud every single day. Sure, you can set pass codes to lock your phone, but that one time it irritates you and you turn it off, could be the one time you lose your phone. Apps like Seek Droid are here to help with this problem. I have done apps like this in the past, but I felt like I needed to set things straight because this app is the complete package and really does everything that can possibly done for you except teleport your phone into your hands.

Seek Droid does the basics for a not only stolen, but lost phone. If you lose your phone you can set a special phrase to turn it off silent and ring. This means if your phone is down the couch and on silent and you send your message to it in text, it will turn the volume up and ring. Another really cool thing that this app does for lost and stolen phones is enabling GPS remotely. This means that if you lose your phone and/or it gets stolen you can turn GPS on from the website and find it on the map. That is a pretty special combination of features.

However, turning GPS on isn’t the only thing this app can do remotely. A cool feature that you can take advantage of if you have just lost your phone is retrieving your missed call remotely. Using the site you can see who has called you so you can return any important calls. Another key feature of this app that you can use if you feel that your personal information is as stake is wipe your phone and SD card completely, remotely. This action cannot be revoked, so you would feel pretty stupid if you wiped your phone’s memory and SD card and it was under the seat in your car. Wiping your phones memory is a good option if you feel your information is in danger, but don’t just start wiping your phone all the time or you may experience extreme anger and have to use that insurance you have been paying for monthly because your phone is now in pieces.

One alternative to saving your information without wiping your memory is setting a custom lock on your phone remotely. By doing this you can ensure that your phone will be kept safe through a password that you have chosen. Another way to make sure this doesn’t fail is by using another key feature Seek Droid offers. This feature is the option to hide the app from your app drawer and disable the option to uninstall it. This way anyone who finds your phone cannot uninstall the app before you set a pass code on it. All of these ways are very affective and very helpful to keeping your information safe.

Seek Droid is an awesome app. It is definitely one of the best of its kind. It has many features that can make you feel a little more at ease if your phone gets stolen or lost. It comes with the price tag of $.99, but it is well worth it for the protection.
