Gartner: Tablets to Cut Into PC Shipments

Gartner a leading research firm in mobile and computing technology has reduced it’s total PC shipment outlook for 2010 by 4% and it’s forecast for next year down 2%.

Gartner sees that both consumers and business are holding off on making traditional PC purchases. This is in part due to the troubled economy and the multitude of devices available to read email, show videos, take pictures and perform basic business functions.

Gartner expects to see tablets replace about 10% of the PCs shipped by 2014.  They go onto say that the tablet will have more of an impact on low power netbook pcs.

Gartner also foresees that emerging markets will skip the PC altogether in favor of a lower cost more functional tablet.
