Exclusive: Cricket Wireless to release first Prepaid Android Tablet

Details are sketchy at this time but in talking with Matt Streiber and Greg Lund of Cricket Wireless they revealed that they are looking to release two new Android devices in Q1 2011, February to be exact. The two new devices will compliment the Kyocera Zio and the Huwaei Ascend, already offered by the regional prepaid carrier.

The first device will be another touch screen smartphone featuring Android 2.1. The other device will be the nations first official Android prepaid tablet. The tablet will run Android 2.2, similar to the Galaxy Tab, and offer prepaid, budget conscious users the opportunity to have an Android tablet.

Cricket Wireless just beefed up their network by partnering with Sprint to offer 3G data roaming where there is no Cricket Wireless network. Cricket is a subsidiary of Leap Wireless.

The other prepaid cariers each offer 1 Android powered device. The Motorola I1 with Boost Mobile and the Samsung Intercept through Virgin Mobile. More to come!
