Note 8 Not Charging

Problem: Have a Note 8 and all of a sudden it started to not charge when plugged in no charge symbol and not increase in percent charge.  Tried various cords didn’t help. Always showed charge symbol on wireless charging stand but didn’t always show increase in percentage or very slow. Did charge with power off at decent rate. Seems to charge on wireless when on somewhat faster now. Have found that when I have it plugged in doesn’t show charge but it will hold percentage and not discharge even during use (video, facebook, calling, whatever just no charge) Soon as I unplug it discharges at what seems like a normal rate. Went through Troubleshoot Samsung Galaxy Note 8 not charging & slow charging issues except the master reset No change. Made sure power port is clean.

Solution: If you have already tried cleaning the charging port of the phone and used different cords to charge the device then it’s very likely that this is already caused by a faulty hardware component. Try charging the phone from a computer USB port. If the phone charges then one of the pins of the charging port of the phone is most likely damaged. I would however suggest that you do a factory reset to eliminate the possibility of this being caused by a software glitch. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component possibly the power IC. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center if this is the case.

Note 8 Battery Drains Very Quickly

Problem: Hi! Lately my galaxy Note 8  has been having battery problems. I would leave it unplugged overnight but mostly charged and would wake up to a dead phone. In general, the battery depletes very quickly. Two days ago, i woke up to a dead phone. i plugged it in and there would be the battery charging sign (the one with the lightning bolt) but it just does not turn on- even after letting it charge for over a day. Please help!

Solution: Try doing a soft reset by pressing and holding both the power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. If the phone is still unresponsive then proceed with the steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air.
  • Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a different charging cord and wall charger. If the phone does not charge then try doing so from a computer USB port. If you have a wireless charger available then you can use this as well.
  • Turn on the phone.

In case the issue still persists then you should have this checked at a service center.

Note 8 Freezes Then Shuts Off During Startup

Problem: I got a phone from a friend and was just asked to fix it. Sorry, but I’m not sure how it happened, but I can explain what’s wrong. When I hold in the power button in the phone, it vibrates, then goes to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 screen. The it freezes and shuts off. Then by itself it vibrates again and keeps trying to reboot itself. ONCE I somehow got it the the Verizon screen, than to the lock screen. But then it froze and died again. I would really appreciate some help, I tried everything.

Solution: What you will want to do first in this case is to make sure that the phone battery has sufficient charge. Follow the steps listed below to charge the phone.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air.
  • Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a wall charger. Make sure that the charging indicator is present in the phone.
  • In case the phone does not charge then try charging it from a computer USB port. If you have a wireless charger then you can try using this as well.
  • Turn on the phone by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
