The World’s Largest Huawei X5 Appears at CES

January 9th, 2011

In late December 2010 Samsung and Google showed off the world’s largest Samsung Nexus S at a Best Buy in California, the fully functional demo wowed millions. At CES, we saw the World’s Largest Huawei X5

Chinese manufacturer Huawei, has just recently started showing up on US carriers. The Huawei Ascend and the “Cosmos” are both Android devices available in the US. Cricket Wireless carries the Ascend and T-Mobile carries the “Cosmos”. In speaking with Cricket’s General Manager for Devices Matt Stoiber at Pepcom’s Digital Experience, as part of CES, he confirmed that Cricket will receive a replacement for the Ascend by Huawei this year in addition to the X5.  A Huawei spokesperson told us a new Android device by Huawei, featuring a qwerty keyboard, will hit the nation’s third largest carrier, Sprint, later this year.

The X5 features a 3.8″ capacitive touchscreen display with Android 2.2, 5mp camera and 800mhz processor.

The X5 seems to be positioned as Huawei’s flagship Android device for 2011.

Huawei Ideos to T-Mobile as “Comet”

October 14th, 2010

A few weeks ago our friends at Tmonews released a list of T-Mobile accesories headed to Tmobile stores this fall and holiday season. Among those device accesories were accesories for the Huawei Ideos which will release on November 3, 2010 as “The Comet”

This compact full featured Android device comes with Android 2.2 “Froyo”, a compact TFT display at 240×380 and a 3 megapixel camera with autofocus. The Comet comes in at a whopping 2.80 inches, so while bigger than the Aria it’s definitely not a pocket hog.

The Comet will be targeted at beginning Android users. The T-mobile graphic above (courtesy of tmonews) states that the target audience is: “First time smartphone users who want to use the web and apps to find useful and interesting information that helps with daily life”

There is no word on pricing but Tmonews is speculating a sub $100 price for new customers and we agree.

Huawei IDEOS line includes Tablet!

September 4th, 2010

For a company that has previously had next to no US exposure, Chinese manufacturer Huawei has been making serious waves at IFA this year with their IDEOS line of products, due to bring a mid-range Android experience across the world. As if their first US phone release was not impressive enough, it seems Huawei has taken the a nod from another manufacturer we know, and branding all of their Android experience devices under a single brand. This is the second time we have seen this effort, the first being Samsung’s Galaxy S series. As an exclusive from IFA 2010, The Droid Guy got some hands on with the Huawei IDEOS tablet with Android!

The IDEOS brand will be something we will be seeing more and more of in the US, and in many other regions of the world. Huawei has a great line of Android devices ready to deploy with 2.2 ready, and shows no signs of stopping. Now, let’s get a look at this thing!

[UPDATE] Huawei summons an Android storm, TDG gets a hands on!

September 3rd, 2010

There are a significant amount of Android devices all over the world. Region specific devices make me sad (Samsung: IWANT A US GALAXY BEAM!) but what’s worse are hardware companies that do not even have us phones. Be it they are unwilling or unable, I really like ALL Android devices, and like to play with all of them. With that, I have been patiently waiting for Huawei, a popular chinese hardware manufacturer, already has Android devices in the wild, but we can’t get/use them in the US. Enter IDEOS, Huawei’s newest Android Smartphone!

The FroYo friendly phone packs a punch, for being described as an Entry Level device by it’s manufacturer. The device will come in various colors, each very nice looking! It boasts downlink speeds of more than 7.2Mb/s, offers WCDMA + WiFi dual network support, meaning it will support our favorite 8 device wifi tethering feature. The device will be in several markets in the world, including the US. With price points like $100-$200 depending on the market it’s in, Huawei is doing a great job pushing itself into the Android ecosystem, and I can’t wait to get one of these in my hand! The Droid Guy is live at IFA with a hands on of the IDEOS!
