HTC Leading The Buzz Factor For Mobile World Congress 2012

February 22nd, 2012

This weekend the mobile world (including thedroidguy) is heading to Barcelona Spain for the GSMA’s Mobile World Congress. This is the biggest event for mobile technology in the world. It’s almost a CES sized show dedicated to mobile.

We’ve heard a ton of rumors and leaks in the past four weeks about what we will see at Mobile World Congress.

The leakage started with the Samsung Galaxy S III that evaporated after Samsung released a statement saying that they would not be releasing the follow up to last years ginormous Galaxy S II until later this Spring. What we are expecting is a new tablet running on Samsung’s Exonys Processors.

Qualcomm To Debut New Dual Core Snap Dragon With Integrated LTE At MWC

February 21st, 2012

For a while now one of the biggest MWC rumors has been that HTC will bring a new quad-core Android phone powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 3 chip set.  This will be the first time that HTC has swayed from their long term relationship with Qualcomm and their SnapDragon processors for Android devices.

So what’s Qualcomm bringing to MWC. Well Qualcomm’s Vice President of Product Management, Raj Talluri may have rubbed some folks the wrong way when he announced they wouldn’t be bringing any ready for market devices with Qualcomm’s quad-core SnapDragon processor. He did say there may be some conceptual designs but nothing that will be available anytime soon.

So do we write Qualcomm off right now for MWC? Heck no!

Fujitsu To Enter European Market And Possibly US As Well

February 20th, 2012

Fujitsu had a pretty large booth at the International Consumer Electronics Show, despite the fact that their hardware isn’t currently available in the U.S. or Europe. Well, according to our friends at Androidpit, that’s all about to change.

Fujitsu will reportedly be showing off a new line of smartphones at Mobile World Congress next week. We’re not clear as to whether they will all be Android phones, however they already have Android smartphones and a water proof Android tablet available on Japan’s biggest carrier DoCoMo.

The Japanese manufacturer has released a picture of the very interesting looking Android phones above. There’s nothing to suggest that Fujitsu would bring anything but high specced devices. Their Honeycomb tablet had a lot of great features, like a split keyboard with drawing pad in the middle, and of course water proofing.

Huawei Shows Off D1 Ahead Of MWC

February 19th, 2012

Huawei showed off some serious hardware at the International Consumer Electronics Show with the debut of the Ascend P1 and the Ascend P1 S. We were thinking that Huawei would ride those two devices through Mobile World Congress, nope. They were hard at work on their next innovation called the Huawei D1 Q and billed as their “fastest smartphone yet”

Huawei has now showed off some teaser pics of the new device. Although none of the shots they posted are of the entire front of the device, it looks sleek and thin. We won’t be able to say how fast it is until we try it out or at least see the processor specs.

This joins the many great devices we will see in less than a week at Mobile World Congress.

LG Officially Unveils Optimus Vu As Tablet/Phone

February 19th, 2012

**UPDATED 11:54AM

Possibly in hopes of stealing some of Samsung’s thunder with a Sunday release of the Galaxy Note, LG officially showed off the Optimus Vu. At 5 inches.

The Optimus Vu will have a more formal release next week in Barcelona, Spain at Mobile World Congress. It’s supposed to debut alongside a re-up of their Optimus brand of smartphones and LG’s new Optimus logo.

Spec wise, the Vu actually comes in very close to the Galaxy Note. First there’s the a 5″ display. The resolution is 1024x 768. It comes in at 8.5mm thick. The Galaxy Note comes in at 9.7mm thick. Both devices are 4G/LTE compatible.

The processor on the Vu is 1.5ghz dual core. We’re not sure but we’ve heard it’s a TI OMAP processor. It has 32gb internal memory and 1gb of RAM. There is an 8 mega pixel rear shooter and a 1.3 mega pixel front facing camera (the Galaxy Note’s front facing camera is 2 mega pixels).

Like the Galaxy Note, the LG Vu will come out with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and get upgraded to Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, later.

Asus Looking To Produce A More Affordable Transformer Prime?

February 18th, 2012

Asus new TF300T tablet is not the Transformer 2

A new Asus Android tablet has surfaced. The TF300T tablet began leaking earlier this month. It was original thought to be the Transformer 2 and come with better specs than the Transformer Prime. However, Phonearena has learned that, that may not be the case.

According to a polish website called tabletowo, the specs of the TF300T are actually comparable to the Transformer Prime if not a little less tech heavy.  The TF300T is believed to have a 10.1″ display, quad-core 1.2ghz Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, and 1gb of RAM. All very similar to the Transformer Prime. Add in the 8mp camera on the rear and 1.2mp camera on the front, you’re looking at almost the same machine.

Leaked: Motorola Atrix 3 With Quad-Core Tegra 3

February 18th, 2012

Although Motorola has told Pocketnow.com that the phone pictured above is no more than just a concept, we tend to agree with them that it’s actually the Motorola Atrix 3.

The report Pocketnow ran Friday morning pegs the Atrix 3 with an Nvidia quad-core Tegra 3 processor, 10 megapixel camera on the rear with dual LED flash, and a 3300mah battery (the same battery on the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx).

Although the device bares a resemblance to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, it is in fact made by Motorola, and most likely the Atrix 3.

Other specs include a 4.3″ HD display with a 720×1280 resolution and 2GB of RAM. This is one of a few devices that have leaked with 2GB of RAM which would be optimal for a Tegra 3, quad-core processor.

Aside from rumors that we may see the first Intel powered phone by Motorola at MWC, this looks like a good safe bet for next week in Barcelona, concept or not.

LG 3X Outed Before MWC Tegra 3 Chip In Tow

February 17th, 2012

While there was no set “theme” for mobile phones at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas last month, there certainly is for Mobile World Congress. That theme is quad-core Tegra 3. We’ve already been invited to both an HTC press event and Nvidia’s press event. Nvidia’s event promises “more quad-core firsts”.  It looks like LG may be one of those quad-core firsts as well.

According to this report from Cnet, a new Android device from LG has emerged, called the X3.

Nvidia Tegra 3 Quad-Core Phones To Hit Retail Shelves This Quarter

February 16th, 2012

Nvidia delivered their 4th quarter earnings call yesterday. Earlier today we reported that Nvidia was talking about a new Tegra chip dubbed the “Tegra Grey” with 3G and 4G baseband radios built in.

The other big news from the Nvidia earnings call was an ETA for when we can expect Android phones powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 3 quad-core processor to hit retail shelves (not get announced actually available). According to Nvidia we should see quad-core Tegra 3 powered phones this quarter.

Now don’t take this information with a grain of salt. Last year Nvidia’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang had said that the first quad-core Tegra 3 powered Android tablet would hit before the end of 2011. Despite the fact you may not be able to pick one up right this second, the Asus Transformer Prime, was available before the end of the year.

Nvidia is promising more quad-core firsts at a press event we’ll be live blogging and live broadcasting on TDGN on Slacker/AOL radio at Mobile World Congress. We’ll have to wait just about 10 days to reveal the quad-core goodness.
