February 23rd, 2012

Getjar, one of the largest third party app markets in the world, is spreading out. Now in addition to a huge platform for app developers to get discovered, GetJar is entering into the payments business.

Getjar is unveiling a new virtual payment system today, promising developers better returns for their in app payments in Android apps. Getjar has a huge core developer community that already uses their app store for distribution of their popular Android titles.

Meshin Introduces Recall Into The Android Market

February 22nd, 2012

Our good friends at Meshin have introduced another great app to the Android Market. Our Apps Editor, Elijah has his own way of reviewing apps, for me though most apps that I consider “best” are apps that qualify as productive or business.

Meshin Recall is one of those apps. It integrates with your Evernote account and all, or as many of, your calendars that you want. Once it populates and syncs your calendar it adds a box next to each calendar item to make an evernote next to it.

What this does is gives the user another way to recall (hence the name) important notes from a meeting or event that’s already a calendar item.

Mystery Devices: Droid Fighter And LG Cayman Headed To Verizon?

February 22nd, 2012

A new substantiated leak has come by way of Droid-Life.  They’ve obtained an internal document highlighting some new device workshops happening this Spring.

The first device to have a workshop for employees is the LG Cayman. We’ve got no information about the LG Cayman other than the fact that the name has appeared on this workshop memo.  Droid-Life speculates that it could be a lower end phone because Verizon just released the LG Spectrum. That could be the case.

We also have to factor in the fact that Verizon has said all their phones going forward need to be 4G/LTE capable which would include low end and high end phones.

The latest Distimo report has shed some light on some very interesting news for app developers. Distimo has found that some top developers are making more money on Amazon’s app store than the actual Google powered Android Market.

While this isn’t suggesting that all developers will make more on the Amazon app store, certainly some have benefit from the new Kindle Fire tablet.

Qualcomm To Debut New Dual Core Snap Dragon With Integrated LTE At MWC

February 21st, 2012

For a while now one of the biggest MWC rumors has been that HTC will bring a new quad-core Android phone powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 3 chip set.  This will be the first time that HTC has swayed from their long term relationship with Qualcomm and their SnapDragon processors for Android devices.

So what’s Qualcomm bringing to MWC. Well Qualcomm’s Vice President of Product Management, Raj Talluri may have rubbed some folks the wrong way when he announced they wouldn’t be bringing any ready for market devices with Qualcomm’s quad-core SnapDragon processor. He did say there may be some conceptual designs but nothing that will be available anytime soon.

So do we write Qualcomm off right now for MWC? Heck no!

Nice: CM 9 Boot Animation On Video

February 21st, 2012

Geek.com is showing off the boot animation for the highly anticipated CM9. CyanogenMod 9 is the Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich version of the world’s favorite ROM. CM 9 will give a large number of devices that may not see an official build of Ice Cream Sandwich, the functionality that ICS offers. It will also be a way for many Android device users to get the fun of Ice Cream Sandwich without having to wait nearly as long as the OEM’s and carriers want you to wait.

As Russell Holly puts it on Geek.com:

“This video is the evolution of the CM7 animation, where the arrow would spin around and around the blue bugdroid on his skateboard. The origins of this icon go back to the recovery screen of Android 1.5, where the bugdroid was riding his skateboard.”

He also points out that many people don’t like boot animations because of the resource drain, however the CyanogenMod team will be rigorously testing all aspects of CM9 (including the boot animation), prior to a final release.

Enjoy the video!
