Fix The Samsung Galaxy S5 Battery Drains Fast issue & Other Related Problems

One of the thing that you will regularly monitor on a smartphone is its battery life since this is what powers your phone. The #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 for example when fully charged can provide an average of 27 hours of 3G talktime, or 9 hours of web browsing time, or 11 hours of video playback time. This is already quite good considering that the phone comes equipped with a 2800 mAh battery. There are however instances when certain power related problems can occur on this phone which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 battery drains fast issue & other related problems.

S5 Battery Drains Fast

Problem: I have a new battery from AT&T for my S5. If I turn it off and charge to 100% at night and unplug and leave off, when I turn it on in the morning it shows 85%. What is going on? Also I have looked in settings at the battery usage and screen uses the most, but nothing else is over 2 or 3 %. And it drains fast if we use any apps. Any ideas

Solution: Since you mentioned that this is a new battery try observing it first for at least 3 charging cycles ( wait for the battery level to be at 10% then fully charge it. Use the phone normally then when the battery reaches 10% charge it again. Repeat this three times).

If the battery drain problem still exists then try removing the microSD card of your phone if you have one installed.

You should also check if a rogue app is causing this problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Another troubleshooting step you should consider is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should try replacing the battery.

S5 Does Not Power On

Problem: Samsung Galaxy S5 will not power on. I believe it’s on Lollipop, but I can’t be certain. Tried soft reset. Tried powering on in Safe Mode and Recovery Mode. Nothing happens. No noise, no vibration. The phone did not drop and was not damaged (water or otherwise). It was on a nightstand and when I picked it up, it just wouldn’t work. I’ve even tried a new battery, which did not work either. Stumped.

Solution: Since the phone does not turn on even with a new battery installed then this could already be caused by a faulty internal hardware component, probably the power IC. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Goes Into Restart Loop

Problem: So when I try to turn on my samsung 5s it goes into a restart loop it restarts until I connect my charger once I had done that it stopped until yesterday afternoon. Now once I pull it off the charger it restarts then when I put it back on it works fine I don’t know what to do please help thanks.

Solution: The problem could be caused by a faulty battery. Before getting a new battery try the following troubleshooting steps listed below to eliminate the other possible causes.

  • Does your phone have a microSD card installed? Try removing it as this might be causing the problem.
  • Try starting your phone in Safe Mode. Are you able to access this mode? If you are then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. Start with the last app you downloaded before the problem started.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This erases the temporary system data.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If after performing the steps listed above the issue remains then you should try replacing the battery. If the issue persists then bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Not Charging After System Update

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy s5. I got a system update Sunday morning. later in the day I removed the battery and then put back in. ever since it doesn’t want to charge, it says it cannot charge and to make sure you are using original charger. I am. I take battery out and put it back and then will charge.

Solution: Let’s first work on the assumption that the system update is causing this problem. To check if this is the case you will have to backup your phone data and do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete try to check if the charging problem still occurs. If it does then you should follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris that is stuck in this port gets removed as this can cause charging problems.
  • Try using a different charging cord.
  • Try using a different wall charger.
  • Try replacing the phone battery.

If the problem still occurs even after performing the steps listed above then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Battery Does Not Last Whole Day

Problem: My S5 couldn’t hold a charge all day let alone an hour. I did a factory reset and nothing. I bought a refurbished battery from Walmart. Did an update and the lasted a little longer but did not last all day. What do I do now?

Solution: I recommend that you get a brand new battery instead of a refurbished one. If the battery life is still terrible even with a new battery installed then try the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Remove the microSD card of your phone if you have one installed.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Don’t install any apps yet after the reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Will Not Turn On When Cold

Problem: Hi. The screen on my galaxy S5 will not light up when it is cold. I press the start button, and when i drag my finger across the screen I can hear the phone reacting as it should, but the screen remains black. However, if I warm up the phone for a minute or two the screen works again. I have tried both soft reset and hard. But I still have to warm my phone up before the screen will work.

Solution: This problem is most likely caused by some internal component, possibly the display or the display controller, that is being affected by the decrease in temperature. Unfortunately this is already a hardware related problem which needs to be checked at a service center.

S5 Does Not Turn Off

Problem: I can not turn this phone off and it doesn’t appear the rear cover will come off to take out battery, I could find no release for it. My phone has the welcome screen and  start but will go no further. I have been trying to unlock from google gmail, don’t know the password and downloaded the apk. app and it has got me stuck on this screen. When I hold vol up, home button and start button to reset phone it gives me a blue screen to download a new operating system. I am waiting for battery to run down and then charge and try to restart.  All I want is to get back to original configuration and the phone to cut off and on.

Solution: The best way to turn the phone off is to remove its battery. Gently remove the cover starting from the crease on the right side. If the cover can’t be removed then try pressing and holding down the power button for at least 10 seconds. The phone should turn off. Once the phone is off try turning it back on again. If the phone is still stuck on the welcome screen after this then restart the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data.
