Note 4 Unable To Install Update File Is Invalid

Problem: My Samsung note 4 is refusing to install updates. I downloaded the update 4 times but once it finishes downloading the update it write up ” unable to install update file is invalid” I’ve tried almost 5 times now can you please help me out.

Solution: You should start the troubleshooting by checking if your current connection is causing the problem. If your Internet connection is unstable then it could cause the phone to download a corrupted update file. Try connecting your phone to a different Wi-Fi network then check if the issue still occurs. If it still does then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Try updating your phone using Kies. To do this you need to have an updated version of Kies installed in your computer. Connect your phone using a USB cord to your computer then let Kies update your device.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete try updating your phone software again.

If the above steps fail to resolve the problem then you should try manually flashing the updated firmware file to your phone. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular android forums online.

Note 4 Stuck On Loading Screen

Problem: hey droid guy:) i just updated my operating system, last done in oct 2015 i think. my phone is now stuck on the load screen (first samsung note 4 once you turn on the phone..doesn’t get to the animation of the system starting) my carrier is bell(if that’s needed) i followed the stages of clearing cache and factory reset..no change. any advice would be appreciated thanks

Solution: Try removing the battery of your phone and the microSD ( if your phone has one installed) then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then check if your phone turns on. If the problem still persists then you should consider flashing your phone with its updated firmware file. Refer to the various Android forums online on instructions on how to flash your phone.

Note 4 Apps Missing After Software Update

Problem: This morning my phone turned itself off and did a system update.  I briefly saw a screen that I did not recognize (black with blue and red writing) that said it needed to reboot.  Then the droid guy came on the screen and it said it was doing a system update.  Once the update was done all my apps were gone, my screen saver, wallpaper, ring tones etc.  It was just like I just got the phone again.  I  am a bit worried that maybe I got hacked?  Is there an update?  I looked at system update history on my phone and it showed none.

Solution: It looks like your phone performed a factory reset during the update process. Try rebooting your phone then check if your apps are still missing. If they are then a reset might have occurred. Since you are worried that your phone might be hacked I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This reset will eliminate any malicious app that might have been installed in your phone.

Note 4 Always Freezes And Crashes

Problem: Phone always freezes and crashes multiple times a day. First i thought it was because my storage was full so i deleted a lot of stuff to make a lot of space. But it’s still doing it. I recently got a new battery and it’s been working really well for about a month. I read the article and I saw that batteries could be issues but why mine when i just got a new one? Its samsung official too. And my phone never did this till just a couple days ago and it’s none stop now. My phone also went into Odin mode.

Solution: Whenever your phone freezes or crashes the first thing that you should check is if the phone software is causing the problem. Perform the troubleshooting steps listed below to check if this is the case.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. When your phone works in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. Check if the phone still freezes or crashes. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

One other thing to consider is the microSD card. If it is corrupt then this can cause freezing issues in your phone. Try removing the microSD card then check if the issue get resolved.

Note 4 Unable To Perform System Update

Problem: Hello, I am using samsung note 4 and I am unable to perform system update. The current android version on the phone is 5.1.1. The feedback I received on any attempt is that it’s up to date. Please assist.

Solution: There are several conditions that your phone must meet first in order for it to be able to get the official update.

  • If your phone is an unlocked device then it should be running on its original network. This way it will be able to access the update servers of its original network.
  • Your phone must not be rooted.
  • Your phone must not be running on a custom firmware.

If your phone meets the conditions listed above and it’s still not getting any software update then try using Kies to update your phone. Should this fail then backup your phone data and do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete check for the update.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then I recommend you try flashing the updated firmware file to your device. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 4 Not Updating Due To Binary Counter

Problem: I have a note 4 using from rent a center,my cell carrier is cricket. I would like to have  the latest software, i have tried Kies and it says firmware is current.I went to best  buy for a samsung tech to install and it could not, i was told something about binary not matching .Please help, not experienced with doing flash options or rooting and if another way besides those methods please share.

Solution: If the binary counter of your phone is greater than zero then chances are it is running on a custom firmware or ran a custom firmware previously. The number represents the number of times the phone was flashed with a custom firmware. In order for your phone to get the official update the number should be zero. You can try downloading the Triangle Away app from the Google Play Store to bring this number back to zero. If this doesn’t work then you should consider flashing the updated stock firmware file to your phone.

Note 4 Keeps On Rebooting

Problem: I had the same problem as per your forum, where the Note 4 started to reboot, then stick and reboot, then showed the Android robot, and would not power up even after removing battery and replacing for some 20 mins, then would work again for a short while. I did a soft reboot then a full factory hard reset, but the problem persisted. It was 23 months into a 24 month contract so firmly convinced it received malicious update by Samsung to ensure update of the phone to a newer model, as reconfirmed by Samsung’s recent admission that such updates can be sent, as they did for their Note 7 range to existing users.

Solution: Do you have a microSD card installed in your phone? If you do then try removing this as this might be causing the problem. If the issue persists then I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.
