Note 4 Could Not Do Normal Boot MMC Read Failed Error

Problem: hi, i was using galaxy note 4 sm-n910g for the last one year without any problems recently my phone used to hang a lot and it automatically reboot to the download mode(volume down+home+power) on this page on left side top it shows “could not do normal boot” “mmc read failed” and some usual lines that generally shows up in the download mode.I did rooting the phone using twrp but couldn’t flash bootloader after that i restored the phone using twrp now the phone is in the bootloop with samsung logo.i tried flashing the stock firmware with odin but its showing failed. please help me.

Related Problem: Hello, I woke up this morning and even though my phone was plugged in and on the charger it says it “couldn’t do a normal boot. ddi: mmc_read failed. Odin Mode high speed.” along with some other text. It also says Downloading do not turn off target. Not sure what’s happening because I haven’t recently installed any new software. Please help.

Solution: There are two possible reasons why this issue is happening. It’s either the software is corrupted or the MMC or flash memory of the phone is malfunctioning. Try doing a factory reset first. Make sure to have a backup copy of your phone data before doing this. If this fails then you will need to flash the phone with its updated stock firmware file. If this still fails then the problem could most likely be caused by a flash memory defect. I would suggest that you have this checked at a service center.

Note 4 Keeps Rebooting

Problem: The phone was keep rebooting or hang in operation. I have chosen to do a Master reboot, but it is failed. The phone will run the recovery and load the Android robot showing “Installation system update”. The phone will be black out about few minutes later and like it is dead. I have tried to press the power switch after few hours, but it will not response. Only I take out the battery and put back, then the phone can restart with showing the same Android Robot. Hope you could help to recover the phone. Thank you.

Solution: If a factory reset fails to fix the problem then you should consider flashing the phone software with its updated firmware file. Refer to the various Android forums online for the correct procedure in flashing your phone.

On the hardware side you can try replacing the battery with a new one.

If the issue still persists even after performing the steps listed above then you should have your phone checked at a service center as this could already be caused by a faulty internal component.

Note 4 Lagging And Unresponsive

Problem: My note 4 was lagging a lot today and could hardly use it because it was so unresponsive. I kept pulling out the battery and restarting. It eventually gave me a screen with the little android logo guy and said Downloading… Do not turn off Target !! and I found a youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snS-TiAYPe4) to get rid of that. Once I held the down button, home button, and off button it restarted and gave me a blue light but no screen. I pulled out the battery again and it finally turned back on but is still super slow and not working well…it is so painfully slow. Like minutes to open anything. Any advice? I could just get a new phone but I do love this phone.  HELP!

Solution: If your phone lags or is unresponsive sometimes then there’s a chance that it could be caused by issues concerning the phone software. Below are the recommended troubleshooting steps that you need to do for this particular issue. Perform each step below then move to the next step if the issue still occurs.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone is operating in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. If the issue doesn’t occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • If your phone has a microSD card installed then try removing it. Usually if this card has corrupt sectors then it can slow down your phone.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Tap To Speak Freezes Phone

Problem: Samsung Galaxy 4 user, My phone will be on the main screen, off, sitting idle.  When I activate the screen to use it, the screen has the “”Tap to Speak”” feature on the lower half and it’s frozen.  The “”Tap to Speak”” is what comes up when you hit the microphone button on the Samsung keyboard.  You can’t close it or activate the microphone.  the  Settings button does work though.  nothing is working.  When it happens I hit the power button and do a restart it doesn’t end it.  I can’t even access my setting, because it won’t allow me. Its just frozen and restarting doesn’t make it go away. Not sure about what the “android version”, I just selected one from the list in your questionnaire but I could be wrong.   I have done the following: 1)  Reset using power button.

Solution: This was a common issue a few months back and was found out to be caused by a bug in the phone software. An update with a bug fix was later released to fix this issue. I would recommend that you check if there are any new software updates available for your phone and apply them immediately. If your phone is already running on the latest software version and the issue still occurs then you should perform a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy first.

Note 4 Freezes After Software Update

Problem: I updated my Galaxy Note 4 in October. I have experienced it freezing and not being able to use any functions. Also my factory app ‘Music’ activates randomly and when closed will come back on. I now notice when I’m using the ‘Calendar’ function and am scrolling through it with my headphones plugged in, either the ‘Ringtone’ volume goes up or ‘Media’ volume goes up or down. What the heck is happening?

Solution: These issues could be caused by the update. Sometimes when the update process starts some old software data gets left behind ( this is usually removed automatically). When this happens the old data will cause a conflict with the new software version resulting in phone issues. What you should do then to fix this problem is to backup your phone data and then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Not Updating To Marshmallow

Problem: Hey sir well i am having samsung note4 n910g i am facing a issue while updating my note4 to marshmallow as i want to tell you that i have tried to update my mobile thrice and i have downloaded the software to from the auto update option which is present in about device but each and every time it shows error and ask me to send reports but when i tried today so it is showing that your device is updated but it is running 5.0 version please help me out and please fix this issue and let me know when i will get update or what i have to do to get updated software

Solution: You should try updating your phone using Kies or Smart Switch. If the phone still does not update this way then try doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete try to check if the update will proceed.

If the above steps don’t work then you should consider manually flashing the updated firmware file to your phone. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.
