S6 No Internet Connection

Problem:  I recently updated to marshmallow and when I did several things started acting up that weren’t previously. First thing I noticed was the fingerprint scanner. When I went to unlock it after the update it immediately said it couldn’t recognize my print and went to the backup password. I went into the fingerprint deleted my old prints and tried to put new ones in and every time it says “make sure fingerprint reader is clean and dry”. Also more notable for me because it is a bit more aggravating is I will open up Facebook for instance and it will say no Internet connection when I am connected and only a short distance from the router.  I’ve gotten similar things from other apps.Thanks.

Solution: Several other device owners are also having this type of issue with their phones after getting the update. The most likely reason behind this is that some data of the previous software version has not been completely removed during the upgrade. This data then causes a conflict with the new software version resulting in this issue. To fix this problem you should perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step should the problem still occur.

  • Start your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. Check if the issue still occurs.
  • Backup your phone data. Start the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset. Check if the issue still occurs.

S6 Not Connecting To Wi-Fi After Marshmallow Update

Problem: Hi TDG, After an overnight update to Android 6.01 i am unable to receive data from connected wifi. The phone is well connected to the wifi but no internet data is received. These wifi networks work well before the 6.01 update (the usual office and home wifi). To my surprise this problem also happen to my colleague’s galaxy s6 edge after the 6.01 update. Your kind advise is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Solution: Wi-Fi connectivity problems can usually occur right after a software update. The first thing that you need to do in this case is to restart phone. This oftentimes helps since it refreshes the phone software. If you still can’t go online after the restart then you need to delete the Wi-Fi connection from your phone. Once this is done restart the device then add the Wi-Fi connection again.

If you still experience the same issue then you should consider doing a factory reset. Take note that you need to backup your phone data first before performing this procedure. A reset is highly recommended since it deletes any old software data that could still be in your phone which is known to cause issues such as this.

S6 No App Notifications After Marshmallow Update

Problem: My wifi connectivity has been affected. None of my apps send me notifications when connected to wifi. I have to manually refresh to get my updates causing me to be delayed in receiving msgs, emails, etc. I also have issues at time with the Internet itself saying I’m not connected to server even though my wifi hasn’t changed. All this definitely occurred following the update and I’m not sure how to fix it. It’s very inconvenient and inefficient to have to constantly refresh apps to see if something new came through. I have to disconnect wifi and connect to mobile data to check things at times. When I do, I all of the sudden receive a barrage of all the notifications I missed while connected to wifi.

Solution: Try to check the Wi-Fi settings of your phone first and make sure that the “Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep” is enabled. This allows the device to stay connected and get notifications from apps that require connectivity even if the phone sleeps. If the issue still occurs even if this setting is already enabled then follow the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step should the issue still occur.

  • Make sure your apps are running on the latest update. Check if the issue still occurs.
  • Delete the Wi-Fi connection from your phone. Restart the device then add the Wi-Fi connection again. Check if the issue still occurs.
  • Start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This deletes the temporary data stored in the device which could be causing the problem.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S6 Google Play Store Not Updating Apps Using Wi-Fi

Problem: Google play store won’t update apps on wifi only when I turn off wifi and it’s eating up my data.  I have reset router.  Had phone forget my connection.  Nothing works.  Any suggestions?

Solution: Try clearing the cache and data of the Google Play Store app and the Google Play Services app from the application manager. Once this is done check if you can now update your apps.

If the issue still occurs follow the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step should the issue still occur.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S6 Not Connecting To The Internet

Problem: My phone will not connect to any internet connections or mobile networks. I have turned my phone off and on and I have restarted my phone about 4 times and it is still not working.

Solution: Have you installed any new app to your phone prior to this issue happening? To check if an app is causing this problem try to start your phone in Safe Mode first. Once in this mode check if you are able to go online using a Wi-Fi and mobile data connection. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

In case your phone can’t connect even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done check if you are now able to go online.

S6 Internet Tabs Not Working After Marshmallow Update

Problem: With the S6 we are no longer allowed to NOT accept Android updates (which in my experience always make something important stop working). They pushed Marshmallow on me and now my internet tabs don’t work.  You can’t remove battery and I don’t want to factory reset my phone and lose all the settings etc. Thanks!

Solution: When you say Internet tabs I assume you mean the tabs of your browser. If this is the case then try to clear the cache and data of the browser first from the application manager. If the issue still occurs, and since this happened right after the Marshmallow update, I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. However, since you mentioned that you don’t want to do this then you can perform the next best troubleshooting step and that is to wipe the cache partition of your phone.
