S5 Camera Focus Working In Close Subjects Only

Problem: I dropped my phone and the lens on the rear camera cracked. I took it to a local repair shop and they changed the lens, however now the phone can only focus on close objects, objects 2m away or further are completely blurry. It’s like the auto-focus feature of the camera is broken.  The shop told me its a problem with the camera and I need a new camera. Is that correct?

Related Problem: My camera only focuses when I am extremely close to the object. When I move back even a bit, it blurs. Very frustrating because I got this particular phone because I heard it had a great camera. Any help you can offer will be appreciated. There is no film over the lens, by the way. THANKS.

Solution: The first thing to check in this case is if the phone software is causing the problem. To do this follow the troubleshooting steps listed below. Before proceeding make sure to wipe the camera lens with a microfiber cloth.

  • Clear the cache and data of the camera app. Sometimes corrupt data in the app itself can cause focusing issues which is why clearing this data should be done.
  • Check if a third party app is causing the problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode then checking if the issue occurs in this mode. If the phone is able to focus properly in this mode then you should find out what app is causing the problem and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data and do a factory reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet. Check first if the camera can focus properly.

If the above steps fail to resolve the problem then this is most likely a hardware problem already possibly caused by a damaged camera module.

S5 Turns Off When Camera Is Used

Problem: when i use the camera it powers off and will not restart using power buttons. i have to remove and replace battery to power back on. this is an intermittent problem. thanks for any help.

Related Problem: Not always but sometimes when I go to take a picture my camera/goes black…. Dead….I have to take my battery out put it back in and turn phone back on.  This time it has continued to do this.

Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this case is to verify if the phone software is causing the problem. Start by clearing the cache and data of the camera app then follow this up by wiping the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode. You should also check if an app you installed is causing this problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. Try to use the camera in this mode. If the problem does not occur then a third party app could be the culprit. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

One final software troubleshooting step that you can do is to do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this.

On the hardware side what you can do is to replace the phone battery. Once you have a new battery installed check if the issue still occurs.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the issue then I recommend you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Camera Blurry When Zoom Is Used

Problem: Good evening, I have a problem with the camera , I think autofocus does not work well because if I zoom in a little it’s blurry and for  a camera of 16Mb shouldn’t. Thanks in advance and i wait for an answer.

Solution: Before doing any troubleshooting make sure to clean the camera lens using a microfiber cloth. This will take out any smudges that could be present in the lens which causes this issue. Once the lens is clean try to clear the cache and data of the camera app. Once this is done check if the blurring issue still occurs.

One other factor that can cause this problem is a third party app installed in your phone. Check if this is the case by starting your device in Safe Mode then see if the issue occurs. If it doesn’t then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the problem still persists at this point then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Camera Photos Are Grey

Problem: Many of my photo’s are covered with gray.  Show up ok in scrolling bar at the bottom of screen.  Have loaded two new camera apps. with no issues so far other than having to learn something new.  Can you help with this issue?

Solution: This could be a rendering issue of the gallery app. Try to clear the cache and data of the gallery app and the camera app then check if you are still having the same issue. If the issue still occurs then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. If this fails then do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this procedure.
