S5 Green Horizontal Lines On Screen

Problem: The problem is during turning on the screen. Sometimes it shows a few green or purplish color horizontal lines for like a second and then the screen went blank but both the soft key has light. Sometimes the screen it’s blank but both the soft key has light and some time it also restart itself. There was a time when i turn on the sound of the device, when i press the power button both soft button light up but the screen is blank and i swipe my finger on the screen it produce the screen unlocked sound yet the screen still blank. It’s like the phone is working but the screen is just off. Please advise!

Solution: One you detect some green, purple, or any color horizontal lines on the phone display and the background is black then it’s very likely that the display is damaged. In this case you are able to swipe to unlock the device without seeing anything on the screen because the digitizer may still be working.

The only troubleshooting step that you can do right now is to check if the issue is caused by a problem with the phone software. To do this you need to start your phone in recovery mode. This is a an environment separate from the main operating system which allows you to perform various tasks. If the problem still exists when the phone is in this mode then I suggest you bring the device to an authorized service center and have it checked. If the issue does not occur then consider doing a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure you have a backup copy first before proceeding with this.

S5 Apps Keep Popping Up

Problem: I have recently changed my screen. But, have you seen what happens when you tap the menu touch key? The running apps line up and you can switch between them. But now, this happens constantly, windows and apps popping out and back to the current App and back to windows and on and on… Just like imagine if you keep tapping on menu touch key!! This happens more often when I am using 4G lt and stops when I am on wi-fi

Solution: If the problem disappears when the phone is connected to Wi-Fi then it could be a software related issue. Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below to resolve this.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This will delete the temporary data in your phone. If this data is corrupt then it could cause this problem.
  • Start your phone in Safe Mode. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this procedure.

If the above steps fail then I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center. Since you mentioned that you replaced the phone screen then this may have something to do with the problem.

S5 Screen Flickers

Problem: My screen flickers. Horizontal lines across the screen. Mostly after charging. If brightness is all the way up you cannot see the flickering.

Related Problem: The bottom of my screen seems to be flickering. I think it’s all the time, but I don’t notice it too much when the keyboard is open on the screen.

Solution: While the Super AMOLED display used by this device has a lot of advantages one common issue that can happen is that it will flicker. This can be remedied by increasing the screen brightness in the phone settings. Sometimes, doing a factory reset will also help resolve this issue ( just make sure to backup your phone data first before doing this).

If increasing the screen brightness or performing a reset does not fix the flickering issue then the problem could be caused by the display itself. I suggest you have this checked at an authorized service center.

S5 Has Line In The Middle

Problem: Screen has a  line right across the middle. The bottom half of the screen starts flashing slightly at first, then it makes the screen flash very brightly at about 2 flash on off per second. Sometimes stops but it is returning now brighter than ever…… and for longer periods. At first it only lasted approximately 2 or 5 secs.  Not it starts and carry on for up to hours…. I have tried switching it off… and putting it into safe mode.  I have tried resetting the phone. Please help…..

Solution: It appears that this is already a hardware related problem. Have you dropped your phone or got it wet? Since you already performed a factory reset which didn’t fix the issue I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. You may have to replace the display assembly of your phone for this to be fixed.

S5 Screen Went Black

Problem: Hello, i was recently on my samsung S5 when all of a sudden the screen went black. i attempted to turn it back on but the phone wouldn’t do anything; no vibration and no LED lights came on either. the phone still charges as i can feel it getting hot. just wondering if you have any idea as to why my phone has done this. many thanks for reading.  will look forward to hearing a response.

Solution: There are various factors that can cause this black screen issue. If you dropped your phone or got it wet recently then this could be the reason. A software related issue can also cause this problem. To troubleshoot this issue try to follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clear the RAM. Take out the phone battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharger the phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then turn the phone on. If the issue still remains then connect the phone to its wall charger then turn it on again.
  • Start the phone in recovery mode. If you can access this mode then I suggest you do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before doing this.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Some possible hardware issues that can cause this problem are as follow

  • Defective display
  • Loose/ defective display cable
  • Defective display driver

S5 Screen Is Yellow

Problem: My screen goes yellow, and pressing the lock button just gives yellow horizontal bars. And when about to lock, the screen flashes yellow. It takes many tries to get my phone to show anything. It is much worse after playing videos while charging, but it is a persistent issue. I’m out of warranty (phone bought Nov 14). It also lives in an otterbox, so it shouldn’t be drop shock

Solution: Before doing any troubleshooting make sure to backup your phone data first. Now for my assessment of the issue, this appears to be a hardware related problem. To check if this is the case try to start your phone in recovery mode. Does the yellow screen issue still occur in this mode? If it does then you will have to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. It’s very likely that the display will have to be replaced. If however the issue does not occur in recovery mode then this could be a software related problem. If this is the case then I suggest you do a factory reset.

S5 Screen Flickers Bright Green

Problem: Devise screen flickers bright green on and off most of the time .This has been happening since I dropped it.  I have discovered that when I hold it up to a bright light it stops instantly  but starts again.

Solution: Try checking if this issue occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t occur in this mode then the problem could be caused by an app installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the screen still flickers in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset. If the reset fails to fix the issue then this could already be a hardware related problem. If this is the case then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
