A lot of people are using this particular model as their reliable daily driver however there are  instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. Note 5 Will Not Turn On Or Charge

Problem: Samsung Note 5 will not turn on or charge.  Tried charging pad, still no charge. This phone is evidence in a lawsuit, so data must be preserved. i do not know the version, so I just selected lollipop below.

Related Problem: Hell there, I have a Samsung Note 5 that went completely black – won’t charge and won’t turn on. I have followed your step by step instructions to get the phone to reboot without success. Is there a shop or service place you can recommend to get the phone fixed? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I had the phone for about 1 year and 7 months

Solution: The first thing that you need to do right now is to make sure that the battery of your phone has sufficient charge. You need to perform the troubleshooting steps listed below to charge your phone.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in this port is removed.
  • Try charging the phone using a different charging cord.
  • Try charging the phone using a different wall charger.
  • Try charging the phone from a computer USB port.

If the phone does not charge then simulate a battery pull by pressing and holding the power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. If your phone does not restart then I recommend that you bring this to a service center and have it checked as it is possible that this issue is caused by an internal component that is failing to work.

As for the service center you will need to ask which provides the best service in your area.

Note 5 Reboots Shuts Down When Receiving Text Messages After Nougat Update

Problem: My Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 5 recently updated to Nougat.  The update applied without any problems initially.  After a short time I noticed that often my phone either reboots or shuts down after receiving text messages.  I’ve tried clearing the system cache but this hasn’t helped.  Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

Solution: Does this issue only happen when you receive text messages? If it does then you should perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Try clearing the cache and data of the text messaging app.
  • Make sure that all apps in your phone are updated. You can do this by going to the My Apps section of the Google Play Store. You can see which apps need updating from here.
  • To check if an app you installed is causing the problem you should start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 5 Not Getting Nougat Update

Problem: i didn’t get the nougat update for my phone, even though everyone else around me has already got it, when i go to settings > about device> download updates manually> after this the loading sign appears and “registering device” is appeared on the screen, post which it gives an error “processing failed” please help me out, i want the new firmware

Related Problem: OK I have the galaxy note 5 I have had it for almost 2 years when I got the first update I started it and I have not received any other updates but when I go and check for update it says that software up to date and below that it says continue update but I can’t click on it to continue it

Solution: There are several conditions that your phone must meet in order for it to get the official software updates. We have listed these conditions below.

  • The phone should not be rooted.
  • The phone should not be running on a custom software.
  • If you had this phone unlocked then it should be running on its original carrier.

In case your phone meets the conditions listed above and it is still not getting the updates then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do the update using Smart Switch.

If the above steps fails to update your phone software then you should consider manually flashing the updated firmware file using Odin. Instructions on how to flash your phone as well as the updated firmware file can be found at the Sammobile website.

Note 5 Turns On Then Freezes

Problem: One day I picked up my phone and noticed it was off. I turned it on and it froze after a few minutes. I kept turning it back on and it kept freezing or shutting off. I factory reset and it’s still freezes and/or reboots. I cannot get past the initial setup of the phone without it rebooting or freezing.

Solution: Since a factory reset does not fix the problem then you should consider flashing your phone with its updated firmware file. You can download the firmware file of your phone from the Sammobile website. Instructions on how to flash your phone can also be found on that website.

If flashing your phone fails to fix the problem then this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component. If this is the case then I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 5 Software Version Still The Same After Updating

Problem: I have Samsung note 5 and i can download my software update ,”install” it and when it boots  backup software is still the same it was. Also i heard you can fix it by factory resetting it but i don’t want to do that.

Solution: This issue could be caused by a software glitch. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode then use Smart Switch to update your phone software. If this still fails to work then you should consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is done update your phone software.

Note 5 Battery Drains Fast After Nougat Update

Problem: Since my note 5 did system update to 7.0 nougat . My battery drains fast, I can’t use any fast charging, and everything runs slower.

Solution: What you will want to do in this case is to make sure that your phone apps are updated as well. If your apps are not updated then they may not work efficiently under Nougat thus causing the battery drain problem. To update your apps go to the My Apps section of the Google Play Store.

If your apps are updated and the issue still occurs then it’s very likely that this is already caused by old software data that has not been completely removed during the software update. What you should do in this case is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

  1. Hi and thanks for your help. My phone says it’s charging even though it’s not plugged in. Try the troubleshooting steps including cleaning out the port with air.
