Samsung Galaxy S7 Not Charging Properly When Running AOSP ROM Issue & Other Related Problems

Aside from the usual high end hardware that the phone uses it also comes with several useful features such as waterproofing, dustproofing, and a microSD card slot which allows for more storage options. Although this phone is quite reliable when used as a daily driver there are instances when certain issues can occur. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S7 not charging properly when running AOSP ROM issue & other related problems.

S7 Not Charging Properly When Running AOSP ROM

Problem: Running AOSP based Roms and the phone doesn’t charge properly all the time – But if I boot into Safe Mode or TWRP Recovery it charges normally. I’ve tried Flashing just the Rom and Gapps with no restore of user apps and see the same inconsistent battery issues

Solution: Does the same issue occur when the phone is running on its stock firmware file? If it only occurs when you are using an AOSP based ROM then this might be caused by a software bug. There could be an issue with the handling of the power management of the phone.  

Other factors that you should eliminate are the following

  • Try charging the phone using a different charging cord.
  • Try using a different wall charger.

S7 Moisture Detected Warning

Problem: Phone won’t charge. It shows a moisture warning but the phone has not been wet or even in high humidity. I tried performing the hard restart 3 times without success.

Solution: The moisture detected error is a safety feature of the device which triggers whenever the phone detects that there is moisture or water in the charging port. When you get this error message what you will want to do is to make sure that the charging port is dry and free from moisture. To do this you can use a hair dryer to remove any water in the port.

In case the port is already free from moisture but you are getting the same error then there could be another factor that is triggering this error. What you need to do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This allows you to check if the issue is caused by a software glitch. If after the reset the issue still remains then this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center then have it checked if this is the case.

Problem: I dropped my s7 and the screen was on when I picked it up. I put it in my pocket and when I took it out the screen would not come on. I can hear the phone start but still have a black screen. how do I fix it

Solution: It’s very likely that the drop has damaged the display assembly of the phone. The troubleshooting that you can do right now is to start the phone in recovery mode. If the device starts in this mode then the problem might just be caused by a software glitch in which case you will need to perform simulated battery pull by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. Your phone will restart after this. If the issue persists then start the phone in recovery mode and if the screen works here you should do a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.

If the screen still remains black when you access the recovery mode then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S7 Screen Is Black With Blinking Blue LED


Problem: So I have the same issue as some have already came to you about. My screen is black with the blinking blue light I do the volume and power keys I hear the sounds of it restarting but again nothing pops up screen still black what now?

Solution: What you should do first in this case is to perform a simulated battery pull by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. Your phone should restart after this. If the issue still occurs then try starting your phone in recovery mode. If you are able to access this mode then you have to perform a factory reset from here. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will have to bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S7 Operating System Has Been Modified

Problem: Each time i tried to update my software a notice pop up saying ” The Operating System on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center” How to I modify d device in an authorized way?

Solution: When you get an error message that says the operating system has been modified then this means that the security policy of the phone has detected that the phone has been rooted or unlocked  in a certain way which then prevents the phone from getting any official software updates. To make sure that your phone gets constant software updates you can first try connecting it to a computer with Smart Switch installed then check if you are able to get updates. If not then you should consider flashing the updated stock firmware file of your phone. You can download this file from the Sammobile website where you can also get the instructions on how to flash your phone.

S7 Apps In microSD Card Move Back To Internal Storage

Problem: Multiple times I have moved every moveable app from internal storage to my SD card and a cpl weeks later they all have moved back to internal storage. I keep going through and moving them all back only to find them back on internal storage a short time later.

Solution: While the adoptable storage is a feature that has been present since the Marshmallow update ( this feature allows the microSD card to act as an internal storage), Samsung has not implemented this in their devices. Since apps default to the internal storage space when they are installed and updated this means that even if you move the apps to the microSD card they will still return to the internal storage of the phone when a new app update arrives.

S7 Not Seen By Computer

Problem: Hi, I just switched to a Samsung S7. In the past, if I wanted to copy files to my PC (pictures, etc.) I would just plug my phone into one of the USB ports on my PC using the charging cable. After a few seconds my PC would recognize the phone storage and SD card (at first it sees the phone as a phone but then after a few more seconds it sees the storage on the phone as an external drive). This has worked fine with my S4 but plugging my S7 in the same way doesn’t work. My file explorer on my PC sees the phone but not the phone storage or sd card in the phone. I left it plugged in for more than an hour and nothing changed. I can see the content of the card using the “My Files” app on the phone, so the card is working. Is there a way to access my data on the S7 without removing the sd card? Thanks

Solution: You should try using a different USB cord and plug your phone to a different USB cord in your computer. You should also try updating your computer device drivers as this might just be a driver related problem.
