Note 4 Not Vibrating When Text Message Is Received

Problem: For the past few days, when my phone volume is on vibrate, it won’t vibrate when a text message is received.  When the volume is turned up, the phone makes the notification sound ok.  I’m using the Messages app and all the settings for the app and the device are as they should be.  I haven’t made any changes and the problem seemed to happen on it’s own.  I tried switching to the Messages+ app and the phone vibrates ok in this mode but when I switch back to Messages, it won’t vibrate.  I tried powering off the phone and taking out the battery for a few minutes and that didn’t work.  Please help.   Thank you.

Solution: The first thing that you should do in this particular case is to check if the message app is set to vibrate when a text message is received.

  • Open the Messages app.
  • Tap MORE (located in the upper-right).
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Notifications.
  • Tap any of the following switches to turn on or off: Vibrations, Pop-up display, Preview message. Make sure that Vibration switch is ON

The above step will most likely work however in the event that the problem still occurs then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clear the cache and data of the messaging app.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Can’t Send Text Messages Using Default Messaging App

Problem: I bought this phone used and had it activated but didn’t notice until I left the store that I could receive text messages but couldn’t send them through the default messaging app. I also have Hangout and it works, sending and receiving. I want to use the default messaging and I’ve done everything I can think of to fix this plus what others have suggested. I looked at ur site and tried more things but nothing! Now it’s a matter of principle to find out.

Solution: The first thing that you should do for this particular problem is to check if you have the correct message center number setting in your phone. Ask your carrier what the message center number that they are using then set is correctly in your phone. The purpose of this number is to make sure that your text messages are sent properly.

In case your phone is already using the correct message center number then perform the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clear the cache and data of the text messaging app.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. Are you able to send a text message in this mode? If you are able to then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Not Sending Or Receiving Picture Messages

Problem: I recently purchased a AT&T unlock Samsung Galaxy Note 4. I registered The phone with Straight Talk. everything works on the phone but for some reason I cannot receive or send pictures I’ve called Straight Talk and they changed all the settings and it still will not let me receive or send pictures so I was wondering could you help me out. Thank you!

Solution: Since your phone is an unlocked AT&T device then there’s a possibility that it is still using the AT&T APN settings. These settings are responsible for connecting your phone to the data network of your carrier allowing you to use your mobile data subscription as well as send and receive picture messages.

The APN settings for Straight Talk are as follows.

  • Name: straight talk
  • APN: tfdata
  • Proxy: Not Set
  • Port: Not Set
  • Username: Not Set
  • Password: Not Set
  • Server: Not Set
  • MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
  • MMS Proxy:  mms3.tracfone.com
  • MMS Port: 80

You can also add the following settings listed below.

  • MCC: 310
  • MNC: 410
  • Auth Type: PAP
  • APN type: default,supl,mms,hipri
  • IPv4
  • IPv4
  • Bearer: unspecified
  • MVNO type: None

In case your phone is already using the correct APN settings and you are still unable to send out a picture message then make sure that the mobile data switch of the phone is turned on and that you have an active mobile data subscription.

Note 4 Can’t Reply To Group Message

Problem: If I get a group message of 12 or more people and i want to try to text back everyone on that same group message I can’t. Is there any way to fix that. thanks.

Solution: It’s possible that this is a network limitation set by the carrier. AT&T for example has a limit on the number recipients you can reply to on a group message. One workaround to this problem is to use a third party messaging app.
