S7 Screen Flashes Goes Black

Problem: Last night I was on my phone using the internet with about half battery life left. All of the sudden the screen flashed and went completely black. Now if i touch the screen i can hear the phone responding but the screen is still completely black. Ive charged it and restarted it but still nothing

Solution: If the screen is black but you can hear notifications from the phone then it’s possible that the display is damaged. You should however check first if a software glitch is causing this problem. Try simulating a battery pull first by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. Your phone should restart after this. If the screen is still black then you should try starting the phone in recovery mode. If the screen works in this mode then I recommend doing a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked as this could already be caused by a faulty display assembly.

S7 Screen Flashes White

Problem: Bought S7 4-1. Now on Nougat.  For past couple days, the screen flashes white for a second, then everything is fine.  It happens about every 3 minutes.  Uninstalled most recent apps. Have reset several times.  When the brief flash occurs, it almost looks like a new app is opening (the screen moves down a bit then comes back up).

Solution: The first thing that you should do in this case is to check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem. To do this you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. When the phone works in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. Does the issue occur in this mode? If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any app in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you need to have your phone checked at a service center.

S7 Screen Takes Too Long To Wake From Sleep

Problem: My phone is fine for the most part. However sometimes I leave my phone longer than 5 minutes alone. The screen shuts off but when I go to turn the screen back on it will turn on then flick off. Then I’ll spend the next 5 minutes trying to turn it on but the screen stays black. When It finally comes on, my lockscreen vanishes allowing anyone on my phone.

Solution: For this particular issue the first thing that you should do is to check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. If the problem still occurs even in Safe Mode then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Check if the issue still occurs.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S7 Screen Mode Option is Greyed Out

Problem: Hi, My S7 has the Settings-Display-Screen Mode option permanently greyed out, so I cannot change it. I tried choosing the default theme, but that doesn’t help. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Solution: This issue usually occurs whenever the color adjustment setting of the device has been activated. All you need to do is to turn off this setting from Settings – Accessibility – Vision.

S7 Swype Adding Extra Letters

Problem: Swype is creating all kinds of crazy words and adding extra letters. I’ve used swype since it came out and only started having this problem after nougat. I’ve cleaned the cache for all apps. I’ve deleted the dictionary memory. I’ve entered the code in the dialer to update the touch screen. I’ve retired changing my cursor speed. Just seems like the screen is super sensitive and adds any letter I get near.

Solution: Try uninstalling the Swype app from your phone then install a fresh version from the Google Play Store. If this doesn’t fix the problem then this might be caused by some form of old software data that got left behind during the software update. I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset for this particular problem.

S7 Sound Only Plays For 5 Seconds Then Disappears

Problem: Everytime I open a 3rd party app (namely Instagram and Snapchat) and play media (videos) the sound will come out of the speaker for the first 2-5 seconds of the video and then the sound goes away completely. I cleared the ‘cache partition’ as instructed, booted in Safe Mode, and the problem still persists. Help please!

Solution: Does this happen to any video file that you are playing? If it does then I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset to fix the problem.

S7 Keeps Turning Off

Problem: I actually have a Samsung Galaxy S7 active. I had it with me in the shower, listening to music, and so I could see the time. Well last night when I got on my phone, it started turning itself down. I’ll turn it up and it turns back down. Then it will stay for a while. But always starts turning back down. HELP PLEASE!!

Solution: Does your phone have a microSD card installed? If it does then this might be causing the problem. Try removing this card then check if the issue still occurs.

You should also check if the problem occurs when the phone is connected to its charger. If the phone turns on with the charger connected then the battery might already be faulty. Have this checked at a service center.

If the phone still turns off with the charger connected to it then try starting your phone in recovery mode. If the phone starts in this mode then I recommend that you do a factory reset from here. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
