Note 5 Screen Will Not Unlock

Problem: My screen will not unlock all the sudden. It doesn’t read my fingerprint and after I enter the security code it says try again in 60 minutes. I rebooted, and no luck. Sprint says I need to factory reset which seems crazy as I can see I am getting texts and mail/ I tried google manager and it says its already locked. Can’t back up without being unlocked either. So frustrated, thanks for any suggestions.

Solution:  You should try to gain access to your phone by providing the correct password to the Google account connected to the phone. Make sure to test the Google account username and password combination first using a browser on your computer. If this fails to work then try to use the Find My Mobile Service of Samsung to unlock your phone. This will work if you have set this up in your phone.

Should the above steps fail to fix the problem then your best option to gain back access to your phone is to do a factory reset from the recovery mode. Take note that this will erase your phone data.

Note 5 Only Freezes At Home

Problem: My phone continuously freezes repeatedly in ONLY ONE LOCATION. That is at home. It eventually catches up to itself and resumes normal operation, but it’s does this cycle over and over every few minutes as long as I am at home. I’ve turned off the WiFi thinking it was the WiFi causing the problem. However, it continues to do it as long as I am at my home. No where else throughout the day, in any other locations. Please advise.

Solution: This is quite a unique problem as the phone seems to be selective in the location where it freezes. Checking if the home Wi-Fi connection is causing the problem is a good first troubleshooting step to do. Since this fails to fix the problem then proceed with the following steps listed below.

  • Try turning off the location service of your phone.
  • Try turning off the Bluetooth service of your phone.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone works in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. If the phone does not freeze in this mode then the problem could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 5 Not Adjusting Screen Brightness Automatically

Problem: The light sensor on my note 5 does not accurately react to light changes to adjust screen brightness automatically. The screen is also crazy bright when auto brightness is selected even if the adjustment slider is all the way down.

Solution: It looks like there is an issue with the light sensor of the phone. Does your phone have a screen protector or a case installed? If it does then try removing this as this might be causing the problem. You should also check if a third party app installed in your phone is causing this problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone works in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

On last troubleshooting step that you should consider is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 5 Black Screen Not Responding

Problem: i left my phone in the table with 54% battery , the next day it was already blackout . I thought it was low battery or empty but after trying to charge it nothing happens. Til now it’s not responding.

Related Problem: My Samsung Note 5 lights up but no image appears on the screen. Its completely blacked out and wont work. I can’t see my screen.

Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this particular case is to make sure that the problem isn’t caused by the battery not having enough charge. Listed below are the troubleshooting steps that you need to do to fix this problem.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in this port is removed.
  • Try charging your phone for at least 20 minutes using a different charging cord and wall charger.
  • Do a simulated battery pull by pressing and holding the power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds.
  • Try charging your phone from a computer USB port.
  • Check if you can start the phone in recovery mode. If you can access this mode then I suggest you perform a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 5 Screen Not Working After Phone Dropped

Problem: Hey, I dropped my phone when i came home. It fell on the top of its head if you get the drift, the screen is the only thing that is not working at all. everything else is working and stuff but not the screen

Solution: It’s either the connection between the screen and the phone motherboard has become loose or the display assembly has been damaged by the drop. Unfortunately in this case you will need to have the phone opened and checked which can be done at a service center.

Note 5 Screen Only Responds When Using S Pen

Problem: My issue is that, my samsung galaxy note 5 doesn’t respond when touched by fingers/hands. It only response in Spen. I can’t touched the screen using my fingers and hands…

Related Problem: My screen is not responding to touch.. i can only use stylus. It fell once in june 2016. This problem started in november 2016. Initially it used to be unresponsive for few hours or couple of days. But now from since a month its not responding completely. Would like to mention that i used wet tissues to wipe my screen. Is that the issue?

Solution: This issue is most likely caused by a damaged digitizer. To troubleshoot this problem you need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. If after the reset the issue still remains then you might need to have the whole display assembly replaced since the digitizer is fused to the display. Bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 5 Purple Screen And Unresponsive

Problem: My galaxy note 5 has went to a purple screen and has went non responsive. Will not power down or anything. This is the only time it has given me trouble and I have had it for 10 months. Please help

Solution: Try simulating a battery pull by pressing and holding the power and volume down button for at least 10 seconds. If you are still getting a purple screen and the phone is still unresponsive then try to start it in recovery mode then do a factory reset form here. Take note that this will erase your phone data.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 5 Black Screen But Phone Still Working

Problem: I have a note 5 and the screen went black, u can tell the phone still works. it still makes noises. i want to factory reset it. is there a way to factory reset without being able to see what is on the screen

Solution: You should try to start the phone in recovery mode and if the screen works in this mode you will be able to perform a factory reset. Take note that this wil delete your phone data. If the screen does not work even in recovery mode then there must be something wrong with the display assembly of the phone. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

Note 5 Screen Does Not Light Up

Problem: Phone can open/reboot, but screen blinks (appears, disappears). If I press the lock button or the home button, the recent and back keys light up. But most of the time the screen does not light up.

Solution:  For this issue try to check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. If the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then I recommend that you start the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
