S5 Will Not Charge When Powered Up

Problem: This is a little different version of a problem you’ve address several times. My Galaxy S5 won’t charge when powered up AND there is no lightning bolt. If I power it down it charges but painfully slow. This problem began about a week to ten days ago when it would barely charge at all, off or on and it would discharge quickly. I couldn’t even use the phone. I did a factory reset and it now doesn’t discharge quite as quickly when using the phone but again, charges slowly when turned off (with lightening bolt) and not at all when powered up (no lightening bolt.)

Solution: Since you already performed a factory reset we can then set aside the software as a possible cause to this problem. The next thing you should concentrate on this the phone battery. Have you tried replacing this with a new one? If not then try getting a new battery then check if the issue still occurs. You should also try cleaning the charging port of your phone to check if dirt or debris stuck in the port is causing the problem.

If the above steps fail to work  then this is most likely caused by an internal component that is failing to work, possibly the power IC or charging port assembly. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center if this is the case.

S5 Stuck In Samsung Logo After Rooting

Problem: I had rooted my S5 and was using CM13 custom mod.  It kept restarting so I decided to unroot and go back to stock ROM. This done, (with G900FXXU1CPGD_G900FH3G1CPG1_H3G from sammobile.com) my S5 will not boot to either recovery OR download mode.  It always goes from the Samsung logo, to the 3 logo and stays there.  It does this no matter if I do vol-up+home+power, vol-down+home+power, vol-up+vol-down+power+USB, power to Samsung then hold vol-down. Help!!  PLEASE!

Solution: Try downloading the updated firmware file again for your phone then flash it back. Make sure to use an updated version of Odin. Once the flashing is successful try to turn on the phone. If it still gets stuck on the Samsung logo perform the steps listed below.

  • Remove the microSD card of your phone if you have one installed.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Do a factory reset from the recovery mode.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then this might already be a hardware related issue. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.

S5 Drains Battery Very Fast

Problem: My phone is draining my battery pretty fast. It also won’t charge unless I turn my phone off. And even at that, it charges like every 20 seconds off and on. I thought maybe it could have been a battery problem so I purchased a new one. It did the same thing when I put the new one in. So I reset my phone to factory setting and it still does the same thing. I don’t know what else more I could do.. Help!

Solution: This is a similar issue to the first problem that we addressed in this post. Since you already performed a factory reset and even replaced the battery without any effect then it’s very likely that this is already a hardware related problem.

What you can do right now is to try cleaning the charging port using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in this port is removed. If this doesn’t fix the issue then it’s probably caused by a damaged charging port assembly or faulty power IC. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center to pinpoint the exact cause of this problem.

S5 Charges On And Off

Problem: I replaced charging port twice and usb seems to connect and move data fine but my phone wont charge properly..wireless charging works fine but when i plug in several usb chargers in cycles on and off and seems to drain not charge battery..also doesn’t charge when phone off..shows charge but drains..galaxy s5

Solution: Listed below are the troubleshooting steps that you need to do to resolve this problem.

  • Clean the charging port using a can of compressed air.
  • Try using a different charging cord when charging your phone.
  • Try charging your phone from a computer USB port. If it charges fine then you might have a problem with the fast charging pin of the charging port. Have this checked at a service center.
  • Try using a different wall charger.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This allows you to check if the phone software is causing the problem.
  • Try replacing the phone battery.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then this could be caused by an internal component that is failing to work, possibly the power IC. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: I have a samsung galaxy s5 and i wanted to charge. I plug in the cable but there was no sign of charging. Than i changed the charger but the same thing happened. I turned off the phone and when it was completely off a sign of charging showed up on the screen for 5 seconds and then disappeared. Can you tell me any step that i can do before sending to technical for checking the charging port since it give a sign of charging when is off.

Solution: It’s very likely that this problem is caused by an issue with the charging port. Unfortunately the only troubleshooting step you can do on this port is to clean it using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in this port is removed. If the issue still occurs after this then try replacing the phone battery. If this fails then bring the phone to a service center and have it checked. It’s possible that the while charging port assembly will have to be replaced if it is found to be defective.

S5 Heats Up When Charging

Problem: My battery was completely drained and I have been trying to charge the phone but each time I place the phone on the charger it starts heating up and I’m not able to get it to turn on.

Solution: There could be a short circuit in your phone since it heats up when you try to charge it. Try using a different charging cord and charger when charging the phone. If the problem persists then you should replace the battery with a new one then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then immediately disconnect the phone from the charger and bring the phone for checking at a service center.

S5 Yellow Triangle With Exclamation Mark When Charging Phone

Problem: My phone is able to turn on but when it does it is only at 1% then it dies. i try to charge but it charges then stops and doesn’t charge the phone. later when it’s dead the lightning icon pops up but then it’s followed with the yellow triangle with exclamation point in it. i’ve tried removing the battery and using many different chargers and none seem to work. what can be the problem?

Solution: This problem is either caused by a damaged charging port assembly or a faulty battery. Try replacing the battery of your phone first then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have the charging port assembly checked.
