A lot of people who own this phone already have the latest version running on their device and are quite pleased with the result. There are however others who are having issues with it which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 freezes after software update issue & other related problems.

S5 Freezes After Software Update
Problem: So first off, I’m tech challenged, meaning I’m old. Couldn’t tell you the difference between a marshmallow or lollipop. My galaxy S5 did an automatic system (software?) Update about 5 days ago. It appears you can’t opt out of it. Since then my screen freezes, Internet stops responding as does facebook. If at my home screen and trying to unlock, I’m able to punch in password but when I hit “ok” does nothing. I have done restarts and it works for awhile but then the same issues happen. I have also taken out battery several times. Any help would greatly appreciated. Also I have no idea what OS my phone is. My carrier is AT&T. Remember, I’m an idiot so simple explanation would be best. Drop down below is asking which android version I have. I don’t know so I just chose an option to be able to submit.
Solution: Sometimes this kind of issue can occur whenever a major software update is applied to the phone. The primary cause of this problem in most cases is the old software data which gets left behind during the update process. This data which normally gets removed is now causing a conflict with the new software version resulting in this freezing problem. What you should do right now is to try wiping the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
One other thing I must add is that if you have a microSD card installed in your phone you should try removing it too as this might be causing the problem.
S5 Can’t Access Bank Website
Problem: I have a weird issue. I have always been able to access my banks website with my phone and log on to my account through that website. All of a sudden, I cannot log on to my account. I contacted the bank and they say it isn’t their site that’s causing the problem, that it is my phone. I have cleared the cookies, rebooted the phone and even taken the battery out, still no luck. Do you have any clue as to what is happening ? Thanks for your time
Solution: The first thing you should do in this case is to make sure that your phone has the correct time and data. It’s better if you let the phone automatically get the time and date from the network which you can set easily.
If the issue still occurs even with the correct time and data on the phone then the next step is to check the browser. What browser are you using to access the bank website? There might be an issue with this browser. Try clearing the cache and data of this browser from the application manager.
You should also try using a different browser ( such as Chrome if you are using your phone’s stock browser).
If the problem persists then this could be a connection related problem. Try accessing the website when connected to a different Wi-Fi network or when using your mobile data subscription.
If the above steps fail then you should consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
S5 Error when Getting Update
Problem: I have an S5 Samsung Galaxy and my problem is when i try to update my software (already 5.1) it shows me there is an error and it can’t update Firmware and Software. I report this issue to Samsung and after a month or so, they send another update which shows me the same thing. The update is 66.69mb big and i have over 4gb of free space and also, my phone has never been rooted. Any help?
Related Problem: I have a Samsung SM-G900M that I bought off of someone online. I haven’t gotten it activated and it doesn’t have a some card yet but It’s been working fine so far with Wi-Fi. But my last S5 updated to 6.0 Marshmallow and I want to update this one as well because i can’t run all the apps I want.. All the sites I’ve looked up specs for say it can upgrade but Even when I manually check for the update it says my software is up to date yet I’m still only on 5.0.
Solution: There are certain conditions that your phone must meet in order for it to be able to get the official updates.
Related Problem: To be as specific as I can, my samsung galaxy s5 phone was initially bought with AT&T over a year ago, probably around august, i had my service switched over to cricket. Since then I have not been able to update my phone what so ever. The settings tell me that it is up to date. it is still running on 5.0. My Model number is: SAMSUNG-SM-G900A Baseband version is: G900AUCU4BOF3 and the build number is: LRX21T.G900AUCU4BOF3 the reason this has me so confused is because my husband has the exact same phone from t mobile, and his is updated to 6.0.1… is there any way i could update my phone without fucking it up?
These areas follows:
- Your phone must not be rooted.
- Your phone must not be running on a custom software.
- If your phone was unlocked then it should be running on its original network.
If your phone meets the conditions listed above and it still isn’t getting any updates then try doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete try doing the update by using Kies.
One last option that you should consider is to manually flash the updated firmware file to your phone. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.
S5 Backing Up App
Problem: I do not know the android version on my phone? I have lost apps while switching to new phones and it is very frustrating. I have recently purchased an app called sew awesome (app was free unless you wanted pro) and I like it BUT I’m afraid of putting HOURS & HOURS of work only to lose it! I would like to save the app onto my sd card or maybe even save it on a second sd card just to make sure! How can I save the app on the card? How can I be sure that app is on sd card? What do I need to do to make sure when I’m finished inputting for the day that the app is properly saved? I want to have backup to my backup as this is going to be very time consuming! Thank you for any help that you can give me.
Solution: Apps that you download over at the Google Play Store will generally be installed in the internal storage space of the phone. This is actually the best place to install the app since it is a more reliable medium than the microSD card which has the tendency of getting corrupt sectors. Your problem is that you would like the data in this app saved in case the app gets corrupt. The best way to do this is to upgrade to the pro version of the app. I checked the app over at the Google Play store and the pro version allows you to export and import your data. This means that you will be able to easily transfer your data to another device.
