S5 Screen Flickers Then Goes Dim

Problem: The screen on my S5 will flicker from full brightness to about 20% dimmer, as if it had multiple back lights but one of them burned out. it will stay dim for up to several days then go back to full brightness again. this is recurring issue and is not associated with the screen brightness setting. also i do not keep it on auto brightness. the screen is readable but there is some distortion on black text.

Solution: What  you will want to do first in this case is to check if the phone software has anything to do with this problem. Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below then move to the next step should the issue still occur after performing one step.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. When your phone operates in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. If the issue doesn’t occur in this mode then it could be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then this might already be a hardware related issue possibly caused by a faulty display assembly. You will have to bring your phone to a service center if this is the case.

S5 Screen Flickering After Drop

Problem: well my Samsung phone had drop, it didnt started to flicker until a day later. it like this when texting at first the keypad with flicker and some time end up at the top, even though this happen i can still touch the correct area and get the right response, the problem only get worse, only when playing games in fullscreen the screen doesn’t flicker. i reset it once and all it did was start over again,as in it get from worse, i’m thinking of downgrading back the phone. any suggestion?

Solution: The drop could have damaged the display assembly of your phone. What you will want to do do in this type of problem is to backup your phone data first then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete don’t install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Freezes Unresponsive

Problem: My S5 has recently developed the following problems: Screen freezes, lags, unresponsive. I did a factory reset without success. I also tried all of the hard/soft resets as discussed in the threads as well. Now when I turn the phone on, it will go through the first few pages as if it was being used for the first time and then freezes again or simply turns black. Please advise.

Solution: Does your phone have a microSD card installed? If it does then the card could be causing the problem. Try taking out the card then check if the issue still occurs.

If you don’t have a microSD card installed or if the issue still occurs even when you remove the microSD card then the problem could already be hardware related possibly caused by a faulty display assembly. I suggest that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Is Twitching Up And Down

Problem: I’ve had this phone for less than a year. I haven’t dropped it recently or submerged it in water. Large sections of the screen are “twitching” up and down. I don’t know how else to describe it. If I’m looking at a web page, or any app or screen really, the text starts jumping up and down spasmodically. I’ve tried restarting it, removing the battery, and wiping the cache but none of this has helped.

Solution: You should try checking if the problem is caused by an app installed in your phone by starting it in Safe Mode. When the phone is working in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. If the screen does not twitch in this mode then it could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Should the issue still occur even in Safe Mode then then next step is to check if a glitch in the phone software is causing the problem. To do this you have to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done don’t install any apps in your phone just yet. Ty to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then the problem could be caused by a faulty display assembly. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Color Changed After Phone Dropped

Problem: Hello, my phone dropped yesterday and the screen change it color  or should i say not normal and in about 2 hrs its came back to it normal  colour , in some hours it went blank and still working. Now this morning it came back on with the same issue. now it’s not on it normal screen colour. Please kindly advice on what to do. Thanks in advance

Solution: It’s very likely that the drop might have loosened the connection between the phone motherboard and display assembly. This will usually cause the discoloration of the display. It’s also possible that the problem is caused by a damaged display assembly. What you should do in this case is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. If after the reset the issue still occurs then you should bring your phone to a service and have it checked.

S5 Black Screen After Phone Got Wet

Problem: Hi, I dropped my phone in water and put my phone in rice. After a day I tried turning my phone back on and it went past the startup screen and I was able to get to my normal home screen but after checking things out it started glitching and green lines went down my screen and then went back to a black screen and started restarting. Will it be fine after a couple more days?

Solution: If the screen is glitching after the phone got wet then chances are it has been water damaged. Since taking out the moisture inside the phone doesn’t seem to help then you should have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Flickers When Brightness Is Set Low

Problem: I bought my phone July of 2015 and it has been in a lifeproof since purchase. I was originally on verizon, now I’m on ting. I used my phone as music while snowboarding last year and never had any problems, but my problem arouse this fall. In the fall when I’d turn my screen brightness down the screen would flicker yellow green orange. Now my big problem is when I try to awaken my phone to access the display while it’s asleep the screen flashes a weird yellow and sometimes I can see my home screen, then it cuts out, not awakening the phone. I will continue to try and awaken the phone and sometimes the screen will stay black but the windows and back button will illuminate. The phone won’t awaken to the unlock screen and allow me to use it for many many minutes, all the while my music will still be playing through my head phones.

Solution: You will need to check first if an app you installed in your phone is causing the problem. To do this just start the phone in Safe Mode. If the problem doesn’t occur in this mode then it’s very likely to be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then do the steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. Check if the issue still occurs.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete immediately check if the issue still occurs.

Should the above steps fail to fix the problem then this is could already be caused by a faulty display assembly. Have this checked at a service center.
