S5 Firmware Upgrade Encountered An Issue

Problem: I was in the middle of an upgrade to the latest firmware and the download went fine, but the installation failed. I was doing this via USB in Kies. Now the phone will only show a message saying “Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.” I then try the Emergency Software Recovery in Kies but it fails every time.  The phone top left is showing Odin Mode and some details listed below, including Product, Current Binary, System Status, Reactivation Lock, Knox Warranty Void, Qualcomm Secureboot, Secure Download and UDC Start. Have tried a hard reset and attempts to download, but progress doesn’t show it going anywhere. Any help gladly accepted Cheers

Solution: Have you tried doing the update using the OTA method? If this doesn’t work then just concentrate on using Kies. Now our problem right now is that the phone can download the update but can’t install it. There are several reasons why this could be happening. You should however concentrate first on the steps listed below.

  • Try using a different USB cord when connecting your phone to the computer.
  • Make sure that your computer has the latest updates installed.
  • Make sure that you are running the latest Kies version.
  • Make sure that the necessary drivers are installed in your computer.

The next step is to check the phone itself. If this is a major software update then you will need to free up some internal storage space in your phone. The best way to do this is to perform a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data first before doing the reset.Once the reset is done try to do the update again.

Should the above steps fail then you should consider manually flashing the update to your phone. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Samsung Accessory Service Has Stopped After Software Update

Problem: Last week my phone did an update and now all that pops up is a message saying “Samsung Accessory Service has stopped “.Since then I can’t use my phone I did everything I read from other people recommendation but still my phone doesn’t work.It is Samsung S5. Please I need to know what is going on?

Solution: If this issue occurred after a software update then it probably is caused by the Samsung Gear VR app in your device. Try to disable this app and check if the error message still pops up. If it doesn’t then enable the Gear VR app and clear its cache and data. Uninstall the updates of the app. Restart the phone then update the Gear VR app. The issue should now be fixed.

If the problem still remains then you should consider doing a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

S5 Keeps On Installing Same Update

Problem: I had the pop up to install the new update which I did and got notification that the software installed successfully . the problem is that after one day it comes back telling me to install the update. so I thought it’s a new one …. I did this 4 times already and it keeps coming back. Why? How to stop this? I have samsung S5 Thanks.

Solution: If you keep on getting notifications of the same software update then this could be caused by a software glitch. I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete the notifications will stop.

S5 Keeps On Freezing

Problem: Hi,  I have Samsung Galaxy S5 for 2 years now. The phone was restarting even after a month when I first bought it. Now, that I have formatted it after the last software update, it started freezing the display for 2 seconds, than 2 vibrate signals, than restarts itself. The battery seems ok. I have tried formatting it again, and the same problem appears after 1 week. Is it overheating? Is it something with the settings? The weather widget is refreshing by itself, and previously I had to switch location on so it will refresh. I suppose this is the setting that is causing sudden restarts, but I don’t know where to turn this off. Or maybe you have other suggestions?  Thank you.

Solution: For this particular problem you will need to check several factors that could cause this issue. Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below to fix the problem. Move to the next step should the problem still remain.

  • Try getting a new battery since a faulty battery can cause this problem.
  • Do you have a microSD card installed in your phone? Try removing it.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete don’t install anything in your phone yet. Try checking first if the issue still occurs.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Not Getting New Software Update

Problem: I have an S5 ACTIVE from AT&T.  The firmware version is G879AUCU2BOF3, Android 5.0.  On the phone it states that the build date is July 30, 2015.  I know that 5.1 and even 6.0 is out.  When I check for software updates on the phone and on Kies, it says my phone is up to date.  Previously, it used to download a version, start to load it and fail immediately.  I have since learned it needs 3GB of free space.  I have created over 3GB of free space, but now it doesn’t even see the new releases.  How can I force the upgrade without doing a complete reset?  If a complete reset is the only way, will a Kies backup fully restore all applications, settings and preferences?

Solution: For this particular issue I suggest that you backup your phone data using ies then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete you can check for the update using the OTA method or by connecting your phone to Kies.

Take note that in order for your phone to get the official updates it must meet the conditions listed below.

  • Your phone must not be rooted.
  • Your phone must be running on its stock software.
  • If your phone is an unlocked device then it must be running on its original network.

If the phone software still can’t be updated then you should consider manually flashing your phone with its updated software file. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Not Getting Updates

Problem: Hi basically I bought a phone and didn’t realise it was AT&T Im in the uk so use EE. But I heard the update 6.0 is out but it is saying my phone is up to date is the because its a AT&T phone?

Solution: If this is originally an AT&T phone then it will be checking for the update on the AT&T servers which you can’t access due to the phone running on EE.

Try connecting your phone to a computer with Kies running then check if you can do the update using the software. If you can’t then you should consider manually flashing the update. Instructions on how to flash your phone software can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.
