S5 Displays Colorful Static

Problem: The phone will turn on, but most of the time it displays a colorful static for the whole booting process. A few seconds after it boots, the screen will turn off, but then it won’t turn back on. The app and back buttons will light up, but the screen remains dark. The digitizer is still functioning, though, because I can still unlock the phone. I thought the problem might be fixed if I updated the OS (I was still using Marshmallow up until yesterday), but now whenever I press the power button and the screen doesn’t light up, the phone will reboot itself. Sometimes the phone will boot normally, and the screen will work. Since updating, I have noticed some glitches however. When I swipe, sometimes dynamic elements on the screen will become fuzzy, or stop working completely. The phone freezes more often than usual. And if left alone, the screen will stop working once again, and then the phone will reboot itself, and the whole process begins again.

Solution: What you will want to do first in this particular case is to check if a glitch in the phone software is causing the problem. To do this you will have to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete don’t install anything in your phone just yet. You will need to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then the problem could already be caused by some internal component that’s failing to work.  I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.

S5 Green Horizontal Lines Showing On Screen

Problem: hello there, thanks a lot for this service.  my mobile is galaxy s5, and i am having a problem with it recently, i have had it for 2 years:  every time i turn the screen off, a green horizon lines show up and then the screen goes blank  i noticed after a while that these lines show up also when i put the brightness of the screen to the minimum  is it a software or a hardware problem? how can i fix it plz?  thanks again

Solution: The only way to tell if it is a software or hardware problem is to troubleshoot the issue. What you will want to do first is to check if the problem is caused by a glitch in the phone software by doing the steps listed below.

  • Try to check if an app you installed is causing the problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This will erase the temporary system data of your phone.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then this might already be a hardware issue possibly caused by a faulty display assembly. If this is the case then I suggest that you have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Replacement Screen Not Working

Problem: I dropped my phone and the screen got smashed since about July 2016. I ordered a new Samsung galaxy s5 LCD screen + digitizer (Generic Black for Samsung Galaxy S5 Touch Screen Glass Digitizer + LCD Display Assembly) and installed it today.   After installation everything was working fine. I was deleting some pictures to free up some memory to allow the updates to be installed, when the screen began to flicker then it went black. The LCD lights, back key and home key are lighting up, I can hear the volume when I press the button, but the screen is not working. what do you suggest that I do?

Solution: You will want to eliminate any software related glitches that could be causing this issue by starting the phone in recovery mode. If the screen works in this mode then the problem could be caused by a glitch in the phone software. Do a factory reset in recovery mode but make sure that you have a backup copy of your phone data.

If the screen doesn’t work even in recovery mode then it’s either the problem is caused by the display assembly or some internal component inside the phone that is failing to work. To pinpoint the exact cause of this problem I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Flashes Orange

Problem: when i try to turn on the screen using the home or unlock button it flashes orange before coming on this started happening a couple months ago but stopped and it’s started again but it has gotten worse to the point that the screen doesnt come on at all sometimes, i’ve tried taking out the battery and putting it back in it used to work now it doesn’t the phone also gets very warm

Related Problem: My Samsung s5 screen flickers sometime very fast and the screen go’s all orange this doesn’t happen all the time usually at the end of the day but it doesn’t matter if it’s fully charged or not it will still do it if I reset my phone it still happens but when I take out the battery and put it back in the flicker will stop but after a short time it starts again this only happens at night how can I get this fixed thank you for your time

Solution: What you will want to do first in this case is to check if a glitch in the phone software is causing this problem. Try to check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the problem still occurs even in Safe Mode then try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode then check again if the problem still occurs. If it does then you will need to backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then it’s possible that this is already caused by a faulty display assembly. Have this checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Stops Working If Not Warm

Problem: Hi, I am having the same problem with my Galaxy S5 screen. Initially I could press the power and home buttons alternately until it came back to life. For several months I used an app designed to revive screens. Recently I realised it likes to be warm. I charge it under a pillow for insulation, I keep it in an inner breast pocket for body warmth, the problem only recurs if I let it get too cold (for instance letting it sleep when in my hand outside and it stops working, five minutes in my underwear and it’s fine again). I would buy a new screen if that’d fix it, seems like it’s not uncommon for them to fail after about 15 months. Would I be better with something like a HTC with an LCD rather than LED screen?

Solution: This looks like a hardware related issue already. You should however check if the phone software has something to do with this problem. Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete don’t install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then you should have the phone checked at a service center. If it is found out that the display assembly needs to be replaced then you might want to consider getting a 2016 model device.

S5 Screen Flashes Green

Problem: Whenever I lock or unlock my device, the bottom half of the screen will glitch green for about a second. Even when I get a notification and it wakes my phone this problem still occurs. When my phone’s brightness is all the way down, the same problem still occurs except it is a continuous flickering of green. I can’t seem to fix it. I’ve restarted my phone several time, taken the battery out, etc…. Do you have any idea what to do?

Solution: For this particular issue you will need to check if the phone software is causing the problem by performing the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Check if an app you installed is causing the problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode. If the issue doesn’t occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the problem still occurs even after performing the steps listed above then you should bring this phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Is Black

Problem: Hello, My phone is on and I hear it working but my screen is black. I went through your suggestions but since the screen is black, you can not do what you suggested as you can not see anything to be able to go to settings or other places on the phone. You can not see the screen.

Solution: If the phone is unresponsive and the screen is black but you can hear notifications arrive then this is already likely to be caused by a faulty display assembly. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
