Samsung Galaxy S5 No Available Software Update Issue & Other Related Problems

S5 No Available Software Update

Problem: hey guys, I hope you can help. I read over your section on updating the galaxy s5, but i still can’t do it. My device status says its custom (however i never rooted the device) So it doesnt let me update from the device. Also when i connect to smart switch, no update shows up. This has been driving me insane for a month now. Do you guys have any idea what I could do to solve this issue? I’m stuck on 4.4.2. I really NEED to update ASAP Thanks in advance

Solution: If it says custom on your device status then the phone might have been rooted previously. You need to download an app called Wanam Exposed from the Google Play Store. If the problem still persists at this point then you should consider flashing the updated firmware file to your device. Instructions on how to manually flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Battery Drain After Software Update

Problem: My galaxy s5 updated to the dreaded update in October.  The phone now drains the battery in a few hours, texting is extremely slow, any touch of the screen takes 10-30 seconds to do anything. Is there a way to undo this latest update.  I can’t find anything on a fix from Samsung.  Thanks

Solution: The battery drain issue could be caused by an app or a group of apps in your phone that are not optimized yet to work with the latest software update. What you need to do right now is to check if there are any new updates for the apps installed in your device. Update these apps accordingly. If there are no updates available or if your apps are already updated and the issue still occurs then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

The factory reset will most likely resolve the battery drain issue as well as the lag in texting issue since it will remove any old software that might still be present in your phone. This old software data is usually the prime suspect whenever issues occur right after an update since it causes a conflict with the new software version.

S5 MicroSD Card Not Working After Marshmallow Update

Problem: hello, i’ve got an issue with my samsung galaxy s5. few months ago i updated the software to marshmallow and after that my sd card wont work on my phone while it works perfectly on other phones and pcs. every time i go to settings-storage i get sd card corrupted, while it’s not and when i tap on it i get the setup option and then to format the sd card. i’ve tried that as well but it goes up to 20 % and then i get command ’10 volume partition disk.  i would really appreciate any help and advice on my problem. Solution: The problem could be caused by some issue with the phone software. I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset first. Once the reset is complete  try to check if the phone will now read the microSD card. You should also try to use a different microSD card on your phone and see if it is detected.

If the problem remains then I suggest you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked as this might already be a hardware related problem.

S5 Not Getting Software Updates

Problem: I bought my galaxy s5 from straight talk and it’s currently running android 4.4.2 and it will tell me that there are no available updates but my sister bought her s5 from Verizon and it updated with no problem. Any reason why?

Solution: The reason why your phone couldn’t get any software updates is probably because it is rooted or it could be running on a custom firmware. If your phone is still running on its original software and has never been rooted then it’s possible that Straight Talk has not released any updates for the phone.

What you can do to update your device is to try to use Kies or Smart Switch. This is a software that you install in your computer which can help upgrade your phone software.

If no update is available even if you use Kies or Smart Switch then you should consider manually flashing the updated firmware file to your device. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 AT&T Model No Update When Used On T-Mobile

Problem: Just bought a SAMSUNG s5 active at&t  model #SAMSUNG SM G870A Android version  5.1.1 Build # LMY47X.G870AUCU2CPB1 using this phone with  t mobile.  When i try to update it says current software is up to date.  I’m about 6 updates away from the current.    am i able to update this phone? device capacity is 16 GB available is 4.88GB Available space on sd card is 14GB

Solution: The most likely reason why you are not getting any software updates on your phone is because it can’t access the AT&T update servers since it is now running on the T-Mobile network. If you are able to insert an AT&T sim card to your phone then I suggest you do it. Once the AT&T SIM is inserted you will most likely be able to get the update.

If you don’t have access to an AT&T SIM card then try to do the following steps listed below to update your phone.

  • Connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch running.  Let the software update your phone.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Check for the update using the OTA method or by using Kies/ Smart Switch.
  • Manually flash the updated firmware file to your phone. You can refer to the various popular Android forums online for instructions on how to do this.

S5 Can’t Get Software Update

Problem: My husband has a Samsung S5 but i can’t get it to do a software update… if i go to the settings and about device and then check software update is doesn’t want to check for an update… what can be the problem.

Solution: There are several condition that has to be met in order for the phone to get the official software updates.

  • It should be running on its original network
  • The phone must not be rooted
  • The phone must not be running on a custom software

If the device meets the conditions listed above and no update is available then try to use Kies or Smart Switch to update the phone.  If this doesn’t work then backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Immediately check for the software update after the reset.
