S5 MMS Not Going Through

Problem: Hello, I have had my galaxy S5  for a few years now and while it is something I don’t use often it is incredibly frustrating dealing with MMS not going through.  The message fails to go through so I have been having people email me pictures.  However, this doesn’t fix the issue of group chats that never go through.  I have nobody that has an android to test to see if it is only iphone users that it won’t go to.  I have verified that my Access Point is Verizon Internet, and that my mobile data is turned on.  By using my brother’s Iphone 6 and having him install hangouts I was able to send him a picture.  Because of that I thought it might be app related so I tested an app I was recommended called “Textra”.  The problem with MMS is still there.

Solution: What you will need to do first in this kind of issue is to verify that your phone has the correct APN settings. Compare your phone APN settings with the one used by Verizon. It’s better if you delete the APN settings saved in your phone then input them again.

Once you have made sure that the phone is using the correct APN settings but the issue still occurs you will need to make sure that you have an active mobile data subscription next. This is needed since MMS messages are usually sent using a mobile data connection.

You should also check if a third party ap installed in your phone is causing this problem. To do this just start the phone in Safe Mode then try sending out an MMS in this mode. If you are able to send out an MMS then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the above steps fail then you should consider doing a factory reset. Take note that this erases your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding.

S5 Keyboard Is Freezing Up

Problem: Hey, my keyboard is working intermittently along with my phone freezing up. Not allowing me to click anything. Samsung s5. When I click inside the textbox the keyboard won’t pop up. But I can turn phone horizontal click box then vertical again and it’ll work. Sometimes it works just fine. But only last’s a message or two. The freezing part I just hit the off key then swipe back in and it usually works. I have done soft reset. Hard reset. And I just did factory reset which has done nothing but irritate. Please help me!

Solution: Since you have already done a hard reset which doesn’t seem to fix the problem then there’s a possibility that this could be an issue with the digitizer of your phone. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Cannot Send Or Receive Picture Message

Problem: I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S5 android Tracfone prepaid w/ 1350 min. I cannot send or receive pictures only text. It will send a picture by way of email but not text message.  And when I am away from home I cannot get Internet service only when I get home.

Solution: If you have an active mobile data subscription then the problem could be caused by a wrong APN setting in your phone. Try using the following settings listed below.

  • APN Name: ATT 4G LTE
  • APN: tfdata
  • Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
  • Port: 80
  • Username:
  • Password:
  • Server:
  • MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
  • MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
  • MMS Port: 80
  • MCC: 310
  • MNC: 410
  • Authentication Type: PAP
  • APN Type: default,mms,supl,hipri
  • APN Protocol: IPv4
  • APN Roaming Protocol:

S5 Invalid Originating Data Error

Problem: Hi, I have a samsung galaxy s5 and my partner has just tried to send me an MMS (photo) to me from her samsung galaxy note 3 and all the message says is “Invalid Originating Data” please tell me if you know how to fix this

Solution: Are you using the stock messaging app to open the MMS? If you are then try deleting the message you received. Go to the application manager then clear the cache and data of the stock messaging app. Once this is done try receiving an MMS again and see if the issue still occurs.

S5 Text Message Received In Chinese Characters

Problem: My son sent me a text message last night, which appeared on my phone in Chinese.  I sent one to my daughter this morning, and she said it appeared on her phone in Chinese.  What is happening, and what can I do to fix this problem?

Solution: This is a known issue affecting not only Android but iOS devices as well on the AT&T network. AT&T has addressed this concern already and should be fixed by now. If you are still experiencing this same issue then one temporary fix right now is to avoid using emojis in text messages.
